OK guys, by popular demand I am posting a tutorial on how to link images from Photobucket.
    Here goes:
    __________________________________

    • Download pictures from your camera to your PC using a data cable or card reader.
    • Sign up for an account at Photobucket.
    • When your account is activated/ready, go to the Photobucket site, and click on your username at the top right hand corner of the main page. It will take you to your main album.
    • There is a box that will have a tooltip or popup saying to click here to upload. If you have a few photos it's usually best to do that, however if you have a whole ton it's best to use the bulk uploader. There is a link to each of the upload options on the bottom edge of the upload box.
    • When you've uploaded your photos, you can organize them into folders if you wish. Just be aware that if you do that after posting them to forums, you will inevitably lose the link and will have to replace the links on each forum you've posted them to. So I usually do that first...
    • To post a photo on a forum, hover your mouse over the photo of choice, and copy/paste the "direct link" from the dropdown box. Then, go to BCUSA and in the post editor (where you type to reply or compose a thread), hit the little image icon with the mountain on it. A popup box will appear. Paste your direct link into this box and hit enter. It will load the image into your post. Organize the rest of your post and "Post Reply" and you're all set.

If you need any more help please feel free to contact me or another mod.
    Cheers,
    PMZ

How far along are you in the process? What are you having trouble with?
once you have your pictures uploaded to photobucket, put the cursor on the picture you want to share with us. a drop down menu appears with a few options. the bottom one is 'IMG code'. left click in that, it will high light. left click and pick copy. come over here and paste what you just copied.

When you are ready to upload your photos to photobucket.
Below the "Upload images and video" button, there is
    a (more options)
    as seen here;

    [IMG][/IMG]

    Left click on that and you will see this pop up screen;

    [IMG][/IMG]

If you are using the free photobucket account, I believe you will only have the tiny, small, medium and large options.
the large or medium should be fine.
If you have a pro account you will see the options as shown above.
With the images in this post, I used 15" screen.

Once you make your selection, click save and it will use this setting
    the next time you upload.

    Hope this helps.

The search function is our friend! Repeat after me..... <g>.
I find more info when I start using search, and I am a very primitive user of the full capabilities. I would like for someone to do a post on boolean search and how to use it efficiently. :)

You can't resize all your pics on PB, except for one by one, which if you have an uberinflated main folder, would take forever:(

Best to set your upload size at 640x480 or so, or even better -- resize em BEFORE uploading:)

Sizing is the main reason I use flickr (automatically hosts 6-7 sizes of every picture). The only major drawback is that free flickr accounts only display the last 200 pictures.

    Note about Photobucket server space

    Just FYI:

When you pick a photo size for your uploads to Photobucket, the only thing this does is reformat the size of the display for your linked/embedded photos. It DOES NOT actually resize your photos.

In other words, if you have a large photo (e.g., 2.1 Mb file) and you upload it to Photobucket, and tell it to "resize" it to say, 640x480, you will actually be uploading your original photo, and only the displayed photo will be "resized".

This is important to know if you have a "free" account with limited storage space on the Photobucket server. Your storage space will be show that you uploaded a 2.1 Mb photo, and your storage capacity will be affected accordingly.

If you resize your photos before uploading, that 2.1 Mb photo file could be reduces to as little as 200 Kb, reducing the amount of space you have used on Photobucket. Since your storage space on PB is limited, in the above case you could store 10 resized photos for every 1 that you didn't resize before uploading.

    Hope that made sense.
    FWIW....

I am pretty much puter illeterate, I do have pics on windows program, which I posted to my bushcraft site. I reckon I need to deliete them and use photobucket. when I tried joining photo bucket it said my user name is already in use. does it have to be the same name as i am using in bushcraft, or doesnt that make a difference?

The name really only matters to you; it's convenient for memory sake and some social situations to have the same name but if it's taken, it's taken, no biggie. In the end your name won't effect how anything works.

You don't have to delete anything from your site, unless you want to. You can still upload the [same] photos to Photobucket that you've used on your site.

Here is a link to the image resizer I use for web development. I always use max resolution when I take a photo, then crop and resize as necessary.

It's free, and works well. It also allows for bulk renaming. Copy some images to a new folder and play with it.

Is ANYBODY successfully using a MacBook Pro with this set of instructions? I'm sorely testing my Frustration Tolerance with this exercise in futility.

Any help (or encouragement !!!) would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, GMS

My pics are in Photobucket; when I go to BCUSA and begin a post, I can find no way to make the transfer. No 'mountain' icon, etc.

Sorry to be so friggin' dense....

With the upgrade, they changed some of the icons. Instead of a mountain icon, it is now the tree icon with the frame around it, to the left of the filmstrip.

    Thank you, GMScooter & Guy,

I'll give the process another shot later today. The weather is ideal to get out and shoot some pics for the trade blanket, so I'm going for that first.

Thanks for hanging in here with me... mebbe I'll actually be able to get something on the forum !!!

It would appear that recent changes to the Photobucket site have affected how links are posted.

Instead of "[IMG ]http://www.photobucket.com/mypicture.jpg[\IMG ]" links, they are adding URL code to the beginning and end of the IMG code.

Anyone know how to change this in PB settings? I scraped the help forums pretty good, for now, I just have to delete the "URL" part.

Here's a straight copy/paste of the BBcode IMG link from the mobile version: [IMG]

I didn't see any extra linkage attached.

(Sorry about the non-shrafty image. I can't help but weep for society every time I remember she has a TV show. But then I imagine her wearing a top hat and carrying a gentleman's cane and being voiced by Will Ferril pretending to be a walrus. Read that line imagining all thar stuff and you'll giggle like a schoolgirl)

Next to the video button the arrow is pointing at...
If your copying the link right from photobucket you don't need it however. It should look like
[IMG ] (link goes here) [/ IMG]
    Then you can paste directly.

I've uploaded a few pictures onto Bushclass (feather sticks and sharpening a knife) from my actual computer, but when I look at those threads on my ipad the pictures are upside down. Anyone else experiencing this or are they just upside down to me and you guys can see them fine. Thanks

    Note.....FYI
Lately I have been having a problem with very slow loading.....Recover web page...Long running script...all sorts of pop-ups, which seems like my pop-up preventer and other spam filters are fight over it....
I was just using the "free service"......but finally bit the bullet and went to the .99 cents a month for "Aid Free"

    Works much better, for me.
