My neighbor moved and was contemplating cutting up and disposing of his canoe. Luckily, he decided to give it to me instead. It's an entry level boat but hey - the price was right. :D

Paddled Lake Skannatati and part of Lake Kanawauke today with my Sweetheart.

    Saw a beaver lodge:

Then we saw a doe who we assume gave birth to twins on an island in the middle of the lake. We saw her moving them from one island to another. I guess that may be her way to keep her little ones safe from the coyotes. These are some extreme crops because I didn't have the long lens on the camera:

A little too much wind at times but overall a great day.

On Salt Creek, near Nashville Indiana. During a "Race" that was more Tough Mudder than canoe race. Somewhere north of 5 miles of paddle, drag, paddle drag. Did it in 1 hour 45mins in my Old Town Pack canoe. If I was in better shape, or had a racing canoe, and someone to paddle with me, might be angry at that time, but Im pretty happy.

    A paddle after a storm

I loaded up the canoe in order to celebrate getting through my last graduate course of the summer. I had to wait out a little lightning and thunder, but was well rewarded.

Here is how the paddle got started
    [IMG]

I wanted to practice my "stalk paddling"; some call it native style, but I don't know what to call it. My dad taught me to keep the paddle on the side away from the critter and to leave the paddle in the water.
Anybody could sneak up on a muskrat though:

The real test occurred when I came around a bend that I know is a good spot for deer. I must have been doing something right:

Here was the view on the paddle back.

    Thanks for looking!

Spot on Wisconsin's Black River this Thursday- 60 feet across, 8 inches deep, luckily only about 50 feet of walking.

Got out for a few hours on a local lake, been really hot the last few weeks, the water levels are getting low
We had planned to go more in to the back country, but the road we needed to use is closed due to the fire hazard

Poor quality video of my last canoe trip

I paddled up on these two fawns the other day. They were not quite sure what to make of the canoe.

A photographer I am not. The camera was aimed by steering the canoe and keeping the deer just to the side of the bow. The camera was simply placed on a small tripod on the middle seat.

I dont have any pics from my canoe but do have a pic of my canoe before a fishing trip. It's a '71 Grumman 15.5 foot. She's pretty banged up but I still enjoy her.

Went out after a rain on the Mississippi backwaters near Winona, MN on Saturday. It was hot and humid. The clouds were a real lifesaver.

    Looking toward Wisconsin.:

The yellow lotus flowers were blooming. I believe they are only found this far north on the Mississippi, some say brought by Indians from the south. The roots are edible but they are a protected species around here.

I don't have any of us in the water because I have a tendency to go in the water when my wife tries to get out and I'm not killing a camera. lol

Had to rebuild it a little because it fell off it's rack in the winter and cracked the hull. I was pretty bummed, but I can't see the crack very well anymore. I forgot the straps to the bulk heads so that's why they are open in these pictures for those who were wondering.

I don't know exactly where I snapped the photo but I can' narrow it down from when it was taken. I think Gooseneck Island is on the left (to the South) and a point on private land is on the right (to the North) and Frying Pan Island is straight ahead to the West. Probably NE of #17 but in the vicinity. That was on our way in to Site #22.
