The thread filled with our favorite places: https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/favorite-spot-or-spots.246953/#post-4340490

Got me thinking about how much time I spend in my backyard. I practice skills, entertain guests, enjoy campfires year round, watch birds and wildlife..... all in my backyard.

So feel free to share pictures. Share stories or reasons you love your backyard. :dblthumb:

I think for many of us, the backyard is a great place to easily enjoy the outdoors. :)

I must say, the yard is my friend. As long as I can still move, I can get there.

This is going to be a difficult thread for myself and any other apartment dwellers. Having a beautiful backyard is a real dream of mine .

Feel free to post pictures of any place YOU consider your backyard. It could simply be your most visited outdoor location. :)

We didn't get any snow this year but it always makes the fire that nicer.

This post is not meant to be negative at all, just an example of what I mean in my humble little back 40, I just tore down a trellis, I'm cutting up my old kitchen counter, I need to get my mower out of that shed soon and prep it. And by the way, the shed really needs replaced, anybody here doing a shed giveaway?

I lived in an apartment in Buffalo, NY for much of ‘01. I had a back door and a tiny ‘deck’. Since it was a ground floor apartment, I could just step over the railing and be in the ‘yard’. There were woods close and I wandered there and collected sticks and used them in my hobo tin can stove. Also rode a bicycle a lot to get to the ‘country’.
Hang in there, use your imagination and GET OUT there. . :)

Looking good there Mike, you and the mountain! ;)

A couple of warm days and some rain took care of most of it. We have had the yard and deck covered several times since that pic. Almost 6000’ elevation here so when it snows on the mountain, we usually get some too.

Looks like you live in a mountain paradise of sorts. :)

I may have to take some updated pictures as Spring comes in and the flowers start popping up. Winter/Spring transitions are gorgeous around this time of year!

Mike, if you aren’t already in the 2019 outing challenge, get in! Use that pic of your yard as the initial one. It is not too late to get in, must be in before the first of April to get 10 months pics in for the year. That would be fun to watch the seasons in your yard.

Still about a foot of ice. But it’s getting slushy and warm, so I used the ice to my advantage to put my dock out. Anchored to shore and temporarily tied off on the sides until ice out.

There are 9 cabins on one property. This is part the common yard we share. That is my guard horse on top of the garden fence if your wondering. Like a scarecrow but for deer. Also like a scarecrow it doesn't work either.

I posted this in another thread. This my yard, well most of it anyways. I can only dream of the yards some of you have posted.

Once it greens up, I can't see the homes across the road, but, I also can't see the mountains. I wouldn't trade it for anything though. Sitting outside with the wife, our pup, a couple nice beers and a nice cigar and I'm happy. We don't use our fire pit nearly as much as we should, or more to the point, that I would like to. I need to do a few mods as it's an in ground pit, some better brick for the boarder, and I want to try and fill it up a little to get better air flow.

We are on a 3/4 acre triangular lot on a semi-rural road. But behind us are hundreds of acres of farm and nursery, so it is like an extended yard, eliminating that closed in feel.

Deb is an avid gardener, both veggies and ornamentals. So this is really her back yard. I just sit around in the swing or in my hammock, pop groundhogs under the barn now and then, and eat her produce. :)

These are Deb's photos from last spring

20190330_182821.jpg View out back from my kitchen. The bird feeder apparently also serves as a deer/raccoon feeding station.

Off to the side I have 2 acres of pines and mixed trees/shrubs. The stones are from the foundation of our hip roof bank barn we had to have taken down. 20190330_183034.jpg

We garden intensively close to the house. These pics are from last summer. I dug a koi pond years ago, and we work around that. Here are the pics from our patio, before and after we stained the fence.

Thanks! It's a great little getaway when I need time in the woods and have little time. Every once in a while I will tell the wife, "I am going to sleep outside tonight". She always replies, "ok, just lock the door and bring your phone in case I need you".

It's dark out right now, but this is the most recent pic. As you can see, there isn't much yardage in my yard.

If you look closely, you can see the remains of the old fire ring at the water's edge. When my dad and I built that twenty-some years ago, it was at least 40 feet from the shoreline. The Lake has risen quite a bit in the last few years.

This is kinda cheating because it's the backyard at my ranch. Taken after we got the hay up last summer.

Not our backyard but the driveway where we occasionally get to enjoy a campfire...... and a beverage with no worries about who's driving.
