My first SET (and first scandi) arrived in the mail today thanks to @Panzer. This M3 feels wonderful in the hand, and the blade is laser sharp. As much as I love this knife already, I am blown away by Brian’s sheath. The details and retention are phenomenal. I can’t wait to get outside with this thing!
Thanks @Sargent for your incredible work!
Much better! Through some dense fatwood like a hot knife through butter.
Always nice when “all the fuss” lives up to it!
Hopefully the last glimpse of snow for quite a while...
This blade is amazing. Now I understand why everyone loves these knives.
Well I made my first knife handle. I bought a blank from Brian (aka @Sargent , aka *S*, aka SET) so that I could play around with making scales. I also wanted to see if i could rehandle a knife with what I might have on me in the woods (cordage and a maybe a small saw which I typically bring). I was considering using only the knife blank to carve it out but needed an excuse to use el chapo that also arrived this week. I could have just as easily battoned the scales off too I suppose.
It was super fun but I don't think Brian's job is in jeopardy anytime soon. Gonna play with the blank knife (wish i knew its name) and maybe make a sheath. Super cool design. The back of the spine has a kinda of thumb ramp and relief for my pointer finger if I was using to dress game or something.
Sheath made! It actually has amazing retention. Picked the idea up from one of iz's old videos.
Looks like you went primitive! Lol.
..i got it in my head yesterday to do this, so today while wall paint was drying i glued and clamped..plan to wrap with jute in my amateurish primitive style
ran the oak handle into preliminary form with a 12x4 inch belt sander. sat in the morning sun and did a dry wrap, just to get an idea about wrapping jute twine. understand from WIP thread that tying the end of the jute to my drill press...(running?) to get a tighter twist and burning off the hairs with a lighter, is a few first steps before wrapping....which epoxy to use on the jute?
Breakfast with Solutrean. Gotta love a big knife for food prep. Doesnt slice bad either.
M3 compared to M3C. Both amazing knives for sure. Just trying to figure a way to keep them both...
