FPT Front Country this is the best fitting kydex sheath I have ever owned.
For last 6-8mos I’ve been using scout carry for local park hikes, backyard adventures, but realize it’s more capable for our area for day hikes to emergency overnight.... matijila and •S•chete riding in their respective locations... chete does not go on urban anything while OWB...
I have carried this tool with me for what is probably over 1,000 miles now. It goes in my pack with me everywhere I go. I love this tool and can say it’s definitely one of my most prized possessions @sargentedgedtools
Edit: although my pack may change, my knife does not.
Dig that sheath as well.
Older SET M1...I bought this here on the forum a couple years ago...maybe @Buckhenry .
Tales from the Shaman...
(Post for entertainment.)
I'll take it.
my SET BCUSA puukko blank that I handled and the FPT-M3C-P. Love these two. They are not going anywhere!
Just got my first SETs (M3 and Apache) Saturday night. Went straight to work building a fire kit, making some char cloth, and a fork. Initial impressions are very positve. M3 is a very capable woodcrafter. Edge held up very well. Slight edge shine/deformation battonning eucalyptus but got 90% out with some light draws across ceramic stone and then strop back to shaving sharp.
Took apache out salt water fishing (sorry no pics...was busy setting up and corralling 7 kids on a small boat). Prepped line, cut up bait, didn't clean the fish (still in cooler) yet. I thought for sure the apache would be covered in rust afterward but she held up better than expected. A2 is definitely better than O1 in that regard. Only some very light spotting starting to develop. Quick wash dock side, stop and oil when I got home and she was feeling better.
Can't wait to log some time with these blades. If Brian were to ever make a 4 3/8- 4 5/8" muk style camp knife, (or at least a little broader tip are to spread PB well) and a stainless apache, I could probably sell 90% of my collection.
New to me serechete cleaning up the hobo camp, adding to the rough wiki. I’m thinking this paired with my M3 shaman is the perfect warm weather combo, with a haversack. The serechete was a pleasure to use. Great morning, found a large patch of blackberries and though they weren’t quite ripe, I managed to scrounge a handful that were. My tastebuds were grateful! Such awesome tools
Set M1 displayed a la @rb40 style.
Creekside for tea and a reSET... matijila.
Glad you like the knives my man but eucalyptus? You must have been in a horrible survival situation to use that stuff! They brought it to the Oxnard plains 100 years ago for hedgerows. Always hated when that stuff infiltrated the woodpile. I grabbed many a log of it over the years and tossed them across the campground!
Got some woods time with my 2yr old son and the primi this morning
One day I WILL have an Apache.
Used my SEREchete recently to cut my 1-year-old daughter's birthday cake. Worked like a charm.
@House of Horst I'm sure this was Brian's original intentions for this highly adaptable blade. Did you serve with it as well?
Mine should be coming up VERY soon! I can't freaking wait!
I recently received Mors from Brian. Everything was a perfect knife. And that knife is allowed to be seen only by me worldwide. Even Brian will never see that knife again. And very important, sheath is just as perfect as a knife. I abuse a knife usually but it is my first experience to hesitate to use.
LOL...no horrible survival situation. We have a few giant rainbow eucalyptus in our yard. They smell awesome and make a great vihta/vasta for the sauna (switch for swatting your body). Just goofing off and knife testing around the fire pit. I will post up some more pics when I have time. I whittle with Hau tree which is nice and soft. They fork was fun....my first one. I think I will do a netting needle this weekend and another spoon. M3 is a beast on the wood. Can't wait to try out the WoodSet! Looks like they are getting close....hopefully mine will be headed this way next week.
Fire pics. Digging on the m3. Can't wait to compare to the woodSET. Should be a fierce competition.
One day I WILL have a FPT M3C primi.
Don’t much care for going to town, but when I do this makes for a real fine SETup...M1 & pocket 9 etc. Nearly imperceptible footprint, especially on a “bubba” frame such as mine.
Getting back some of that pre knife making vibe. My plate is worn out in the center but I can still bring in a good edge in on it. Like my Dad taught me edge leading like you are trying to take a slice from the stone. Once you start getting a bevel make sure your are flat all the way to the shoulder. This grind is a good mix. Thin edge, bevel is high enough that it's surprisingly slicey, spine runs way out towards the tip giving the blade strength, the tip will easily slice through free standing paper towel rolls, still has most of the wedging effect of a scandi when battoning, tip is pretty strong ... the test blade did a hundred or so stab n pry's in hard rock maple with no issues, it did finally bend and not break after being hit with a mallet into the wood and pried with.
Coffee, knives and a WSK beating.
Really like seeing these Apache's popping up.. Love the looks of them..
Did I miss something? What's an Apache?
its an Indian silly
okay, I walked into that one.
That's a dang fine looking knife.
What IS that???? So cool.
BCO puukko blank that was handled by a member of the forum. The sheath is one of the first made by Tif.
@Mikea finished this one off and b posted the pants shortly after I recieved it...thanks to you both!
I need a sheath lesson from Tif!
I hope you are enjoying it.
SET M1 & garage bushcraft...spun my first hand drill coal. Yucca on yucca. I’m gonna call it a personal victory, though I wasn’t in the woods. I was even more stoked than when I got my first bow drill ember. Damn I love this stuff !!!
Very cool. Probably Sotol, good stuff!
I love this knife.
