Took my eldest off to a talk late last year by Ray Mears at the local theatre, the whole evening was dedicated to his life time of travels around the world and the many many different cultures he has met and learnt from, the best bit of the evening was when my eldest got to meet his hero, who not only shook his hand and interacted with him, but also allowed me to take a photo for the lad, we had the photo professionally printed and it now hangs with pride of place in the lounge, along with the ticket that Ray autographed and dedicated to him.

The shirt the lad is wearing is one of Rays own and it's only available direct from Woodlore (Rays school), the lad received the shirt weeks ahead of the evening out but refused to wear it until that evening, Ray noticed he was wearing the shirt almost immediately, i think the smile on the lads face says it all, certainly a proud moment for him and indeed me.

That's great Kepis, I think it's great that your child has a role model other than some professional athlete. I'm sure you're his #1 role model but Ray Mears being a distant second isn't bad at all. ;) I really like Ray Mears myself, he's an excellent instructor.

Any chance we can sneak a peek of that picture?

I think its great your son has,
A: such a positive idol and role model
B: got to meet him in the flesh. Memories he'll cherish what ever happens in the future.

Now of course you have to save up and send him off on a weekend course with the great man :p

Thinking about doing one of RM's courses with the lad, but sooooo expensive, dont know about save up, in the current financial climate might have to get a bank loan to be able to afford to do it, would be an experience and a half though

Maybe meeting the guy was a great experience for your son. The fact you made it happen makes it exponentially better. Well done dad.
