Thinking I need to add a PSK design to the lineup. Looking for end user input of the design and features!

In the spirit of doing things differently, since I want end user input lets see your designs and the most well received one may get to become a new PK blade! Well with the designers permission of course..... maybe with a prototype sent their way.....

Only stipulation is no copies of others designs and under 7" long.

    And GO!

Since psk by definition for survival, I'd think there's a fair chance you might not have resources needed to sharpen super steel. I'd choose something to wear well, I'm thinking d2 or s7 maybe. Double edge gives you twice the cutting to keep going longer. My blade size allows a shaft to be attached for an improvised arrow, spear, atlatl, bow drill bit, etc. The blade size is comparable to my inspiration Gossman psk

I was sketching up some ideas last night of PSK to forge over the weekend once all the snow melts. I'll take a few photos and post my ideas later tonight.

@Murman I am digging that idea for a spear point, I am going to add that to the mix.

Might be onto something cause one side could be super sharp and the other could have a swedge tip for penetration and sharp spine for tender scraping

Think personal survival kit, basic knife no scales easy to improvise into other applications

    Personal survival kit. Or
Personal survival knife for such a kit

The idea being it's a little something you keep in person at all times in the field. If you get separated from your main pack you still have tools for fire and cutting.

The idea I'm striving for is something small and easy to make. Reducing the time to complete, while still being a quality knife that I can turn out quick and cheaply-ish. I'm thinking something $80 or less depending on size

I have been looking for a PSK Knife that fits my needs, which probably won't match everyone's else's needs.
I want Carbon steel 1095 or o1, 56-58 Rockwell, need to be able to sharpen it on a rock.
Has to throw a spark off the spine for flint and steel, with a cerakote finish except for the spine.
It does not have to fit in a Altoids Tin, at least a 3 finger grip, 4 would be better.
The quest continues, will be watching to see what pops up.....

I have some O1 scraps to play with for striker purposes, I like the idea of everything but the coating. I'm also messing with doing vinagar baths for a couple of O1 blades just to test out for giggles.

    My thoughts
It’s gotta make a good edc... you should want to have it on you and use it. That way if it does turn into a survival situation you are familiar with it.
It should have enough handle to be able apply sufficient force (for wood processing or removing you arm ;)) but still be compact to always have on you.
Easy to carry. A Kydex sheath perhaps.

My idea would be something similar to my edc pukko I designed. Ive carried this blade for the last 2 years and the handle is great... but the blade needs more length for a Psk. Maybe even 3”. I think a solid price of 1/8” O1 would be perfect for a psk.
    My 2 cents :)

How about a really small pocket PSK?

I had a small chunk of file left and wanted to see what I could whip up quickly. It cuts but I would definitely want something with more of a handle for serious work.

Huh, I was just thinking of making a PSK knife too! It has to fit in my kit bag and right now I am scrounging the area for some decent 1/8" flat stock. Basically a mini WSK with the finger groves of a Folks minimalist. Not sure about the square butt though, it might get rounded a bit.
    IMG_20190218_065006.jpg
The trick is that I lost the forge and most of my supplies in the move and to make this I will have to adjust my methods. Wish me luck! :)

I personally feel that any blade shape or design will have their own advantages, the most important factor that is often overlooked is the handle. While the handle of a small PSK is very limited there must be ways to improve how comfortable it is. I don't have the answer just the question.
But as we ponder that here is my own design.

So I got to work on it today, all I have for tools is a handheld 1/2" belt sander, bench grinder and an old machete for the 1075 steel but it worked. :)

I feel like as long as the handle lends itself to being wrapped in cloth or cordage then it can be quickly turned into something more usable over longer periods of time.

There's another one that has a slightly shorter blade cause the grinder caught it wrong and I salvaged it.

    Handle is 2-3/4" just under 5" oal 3/16" O1

I'm thinking that style with a simple kydex sheath for about the $65 range....?

    Nice!
I like the blade shape of the top one but digging the handle size (3”) and simplicity (no swell) on the bottom.

Yeah it's a good blade design for sure, that one got handled though, ruby red burlap. Just cant get the top design on a plain handle that easy.

I like the idea of the double-edged arrowhead type bblade. For a psk I think having a smaller blade and a bigger handle would be the way to go kind of like a mora Eldris. I think that if you were in real trouble you might end up doing quite a bit of work with that blade and your hand would cramp up with a tiny handle.
