Making the move I have talked about my entire adult life and now being on the wrong side of 50 I think it's time. Bringing the first load of "stuff" early tomorrow. A friend has a house in Greenwood but lives down here. He has offered it to me to use till I find my own spot.

I know it won't be easy but others have done this kind of thing and survived I'm pretty sure I can do it as well. It will be a few weeks before I'm done hauling things up plus I'm still working and intend to till the last moment. I'll have enough saved so I can at least make it till sometime in the Fall should employment elude me.

Anyway I'm excited and a little nervous but looking forward to the change.

Thank you. Are you in that area?

I think I reported your post...I'm so sorry if I did. I believe I may have hit that exclamation thing on the left

Congrats! Where are you moving from? Sorry, I misread your location. I thought that already said Central ME.

You'll love that part of the state nested in the mountains, right next door to White Mountain N.F. and in the middle of lake, gem mining and gold panning country.

Greenwood is a nice little town. Oxford and Paris are nearby and are busy towns ....plenty of jobs in the area. Lots to do outdoors with plenty of good hunting, fishing, and hiking. Great ski areas nearby.

Good luck on your move that is beautiful country. Great hunting and brook trout fishing close by. We use to live down the road in Norway. We moved away in the late nineties trying to to get ahead trying to raise the kiddos. Looking back I wish things could have worked out. Great country and great folks in that area. Your A lucky man!

There was a guy who’s family moved to Maine when he was a few months old. He lived the rest of his 92 years in Farmington ME. When he died his obit. read: “ Boston native dies” . You can move to Maine but you are only a visitor :D

Congratulations on your decision. It is beautify country; just don’t ask for directions from the natives, they delight in sending you on snipe hunts.

If you get home sick for Mass. just drive down to the Portland area for the day and hang out with the Boston wannabies.

I've made several trips up to the Bethel area. Met some great folks and also made a couple contacts regarding employment. When I'm here all I think about is getting back up there.

I have put on quite a few miles driving around looking at homes and property. I keep making my way back to this piece. We have a local Realtor checking into it:

With this view of hills in the White Mountains. A left out of the property and less than a mile is an awesome trout stream. Couple miles past that and your in the White Mountain National Forest with camping, canoeing and fishing.

Looking forward to the time I don't have to drive back to Mass.

It's taken longer than expected but I gave my notice at work. My last day will be the 28th. Plan to spend the weekend with the family then make the big trip on the following Monday.

IMG_4712.JPG Nice catch, looks like a Rapid River or Lower Richardson Lake native. I've been up to the E. Branch of the Swift river (about 25 mi. NNE of Bethel) a couple times this week to gold pan and nugget shoot with my grand daughter from Bali, beautiful weather. Keep us posted.

Sorry, forgot to tell you the fish was taken from the Ellis River somewhere between Andover and the Androscoggin River. I was not the lucky angler. I went to this location to take some photos of the river and saw this guy pulling back hard on his fishing pole. I thought he was hung on the bottom. After taking a couple pics I looked back in time to see a big boil at the surface so I watched him fight it for several minutes. When he landed it he was some excited! I don't know the weight but it was 25" long.

The location has been permanently etched in my brain and I shall return...:4:

I'm in Locks Mills now and loving it! I've had a couple feeds of brook trout. I'm learning how to dig for gems and minerals as well as gold panning. Enjoying some trail time. I waited way to long to get my a$$ up here.

Gems and gold are nice, but the real treasure is that you made it in time for the blueberries.

Happy to hear your settled into life back in the slow lane of Maine. Lock Mills is a nice area and you will have just as much outdoor fun in the winter there. Heading up to Coos Canyon tomorrow with the Grand kids for a little gold panning and nugget shooting and then over to Castine on Wed. to brainwash my 2 oldest grand kids into going to MMA.
