Got any decent photos of your RWFred steel?

    Please post them here :)

Would love to see what everybody has.. I've seen Fred's photos of his work when he sells them, but his camera isn't all that great and many shots are out of focus. Would love to see some photos with clarity!

    I'll post mine shortly..

Here are a few of bharner's secret Santa gift. RWFred does some amazing work. I was fortunate enough to have been able to tag along with him on this build. I even helped a little!

    Wow.. some amazing knives!

Really like the color of that sheath too Cubby ;)

Here is my Modern Otzi Knife or M.O.K. in beautiful Padauk:

VERY cool and capable little knives. A real neat rendition. Love how padauk gets darker in the sun too.

Edit to add: It's real nice seeing Fred's work photographed properly. Much more of an accurate representation of the real unique beauty of his blades.. I love Fred, but damn does his camera not do his work justice!

Thanks Ranger! Reed did a great job! He made an idea on paper come to life.

Love the striker on the bottom of the handle. Works great for throwing sparks and crushing nuts...

Here are my RWFred knives... Love them all.... Sorry for the crappy pics. It's the best I can do with my phone. They definitely don't do the knives any justice.

Don't think that is the case..

Pretty sure Fred just makes them and sells them as is. He is a hobbyist not a vendor, so I'm not sure he can take orders.

Rather just churn out favorite models.

But I could be wrong on that.

So who is this Fred chap and how did he get to be glamorous? :4: But seriously, ladies and germs, I am kinda digging that large leather and antler handled knife that someone posted and the gentleman's obvious preference for antler as a handle material in general. :dblthumb:

Yikes! I apologize for my ignorance on forum rules regarding hobbyist/vendor-ship. I don't want to get him in trouble! :11:

    I looked it up here:

BCUSA Hobbyist Rules (Hobbyist membership required)

    1. You may only sell items that you have made and ready to sell.
    2. You may NOT solicit sells for current or future wares that you may make.
    3. If you would like to solicit business, "poll" the membership for feedback of future products or anything other than selling your current inventory of products, you will need a full Vendor membership. Vendor membership rules are listed below.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think PM referrals might be ok... :51: Could use a moderator's help for further clarification.

If you end up getting lucky and i mean lucky, you will find EXY selling off another in the future or some other that is in need of the money but from what i have seen they are few and far between and most people don't tend to sell off once they have them.

Reed is a craftsman and if you hold one of his knives you can see and feel the life that he has drawn into the blade and handle. Looking at the pictures is one think but to handle them is better.

Me i know as i have 4 now and 2 months ago i had none.

    thanks

To be clear, RWFred is a full-time professional knifemaker with many years of experience. As such, he definitely does take custom orders. However, on BCUSA his membership is presently "hobbyist" which may limit how we can interact with him here on knife purchases. :4:

Let me take a shot at answering the question... Who is this Fred chap..... Well, he is, above all else a family man, and a great friend whether you are 5 feet for him or 2500 miles away like I am. I have never met him in person yet we share many family stories and communicate quite often about our kids, vacations, knives, and many other things. Yes, he is a fine craftsman, I have 6 of his knives and there is one I want that I hope will be waiting for me in a few weeks.....but I can tell you first hand, he values family and friendship over "things" even knives.....

I just received my MOK today. I am really looking forward to putting her through the paces. So far I really like it but the true test will be while I am out and about.

RWFred loaned me this knife to try out for awhile (that's the kinda guy he is). He said it's something he made for fun. And I can tell you, yes, it's fun! :7:

This is one of the largest knives I've seen him make lately, yet it has a great feel in the hand. It reminds me a bit of the Becker BK2, which a lot of us own and love (including me). But it's far more beautiful and refined. The blade is 5" long and a full 1/4" thick at the thickest point. It has a tapered tang that makes it feel very light in the hand, and a contoured handle that provides some interesting gripping options. You can choke back on it to use the knife as a heavy chopper, or choke up for fine work. It's forged from a large file, with some of the file grooves left on for character, and it has gorgeous deep-red Padauk wood scales.

    Hope you enjoy the pix...

Got out to play a bit this morning with that big chopper RWFred loaned me. I made some tent stakes, cut a limb into a decent walking stick, and made a couple feather sticks. The knife performed great at everything and was super comfortable to use. It worked great at making feather sticks after doing some crude chopping, even though I'm not so great at making feather sticks myself (need to practice that some more. Well, here's a few pix:

Ok roamer I'm jelly, though honestly I'm not a fan of Padauk... more of a traditional Walnut/oak/maple kinda guy myself. She sure is pretty though!
