Ok guys, here we go. I spoke a little with SC_Dave and Grizzix. We thought a spring meet next year would be a good idea. I wanted to get this thread up ASAP so everyone who is interested could speak up. Let's throw around some ideas, places, or goals you might like to accomplish. I see a lot of other states that have group get-togethers and I'd certainly like to step up my game and learn from some of the guys here! Let's see some posts on this thread and see what happens! Any thoughts are welcome!

    Thanks,
    Phillip

How about February 25th-26th or March 10th-11th or 24th-25th? If we wanted to do something much sooner November 19th-20th may be good for me.

I like the march dates personally. Won't be too cold but won't be warm either

I'll need to check when my wife and boys are out for spring break. That will most likely be a "NO FLY" week. :)

As far as location goes I'd prefer somewhere like Sumpter National Forrest or maybe around Columbia because that would be very centralized for everyone. Any other ideas?

Poor Richard you're more than welcome brother, just let me know and we'll get ya here. Griz just let me know about spring break. I'm down with a central location. Everyone would pretty much be driving about the same I believe, if we did it that way.

Include me in the list. I like the March 23-25 dates. There are many locations here in the Upstate for outdoor activities. Jocassee Gorges being one of the most diverse.

I spoke with several members but wasnt able to nail too many folks down. I also have had to contend with my father being in the hospital, since he was hurt in january (doing much better now). I say that because i agreed to take on the responsibility of assisting in planning the meet but was unable to do as much due to the aforementioned difficulties.

We have had some new guys join up and maybe we can start planning another meet. With my current work situation it might be a while before I can do anything, but i sure would love to get some ideas flowing.

Agreed. My mind is mush from trying to get my stuff together for the Hardwoodsmans meet but I'd be glad to try and nail something down after I get back.

That sounds awesome griz. It would be friggin cool to meet all the SC guys. I could take a half day on a friday and meet friday afternoon somewhere, or drive on sat. morning and do an overnighter somewhere. Maybe some of the other guys will chime in.

How do you guys feel about state parks? I know there are some restrictions on some activities there but if we could do more of a meet and greet at some place like that it might spur some other ideas on places to go. Being honest I've never camped in a national forrest or unrestricted land :( I know Sesquicentinnial State park outside of Columbia would be a good Central location. Most likely no more than 2-3 hours for anyone. It's about 1 1/2-2 for me. Other ideas..?

I'm personally talking sometime after the HWM.

Some places to consider? The sumter forest is my stomping grounds. I havent ever been in the francis marion area. Im checking on parsons mountain area now. It is in abbeville and not very central but its got its own water source.

There are many great state parks in upstate sc. Devils fork offers great landscape being on lake jocassee. Others in my stomping ground are table rock and cedars head.

Jones Gap State Park in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness is one of my favorite places. The camp sites are limited but spread out over the 6 mile Jones Gap Trail. The ranger station, restroom, and parking lot are at the trail head. The only way in to the camp sites is by the trail.

Trout live in the Middle Saluda River which cuts through the Gap. There are many hiking trails that link to the main trail forming over 70 miles of trails up and down the gap and along the ridges and connect to the Caesars Head trails. Waterfalls are abundant.

I looked at the jones gap and ceasars head trails. They look nice, and as long as we can have a fire im cool with it.

Griz we'll make a special axe/sawcraft station like IAwoodsman showed us just for you..... Far away from camp. That way we wont have to run! ;)

BranM is a possibility depending on location and his college schedule.
