I put these two videos together this morning. Very basic. Find a stone, make it flat, make knife sharp. This particular knife had a convex edge. I dont know what kind of stone this one was, Sand stone is not the best as it wears away very quickly, but it will work as well.

If nothing else it is fun to be able to sharpen a knife this way. Glad that you liked it Joe!

Thanks Matt. I will keep this technique in mind if I am out in the woods without a commercial stone, steel, or anything else.

Just saw this reply... a bit late.. But yeah, it works well, you can get carbon steels just about as sharp as with anything else. I'll take my sheath off my belt and use the backside of the belt loop to strop too sometimes.

Nice technique! I'm hoping to win one of your puukkos soon. That right there is an under appreciated post! It's a new wave technique, to sharpen with the edge. I bet it really helps keep you in plane with the finger guide too.
    i love this post!
