the like-fest is got to be one of the reasons the good members of old are gone.
I just like liking! Often go way back reading before I was a member here. Lots of good threads way back.
Like @Lazarusaurus said, I sometimes don’t notice the date on the post. If my CRS kicks in I may forget that it’s an old post I’ve already read or I think I’m reading the latest post and not an older one.
When I do notice that I liked a post from way back when -we’ll then I just feel silly.
Same here. I rarely take note of the dates. If I like something in the thread, I " like" it.
Because someone gave or got likes?
Eventually some ancient bushcrafters ascend to the clouds as a Bushcraft God, and cannot reach the keys of a mortal forum.
See what I did there?
I kinda want to create another account with a sketchy name and write a script that likes every post @pure_mahem makes...
That too. So much to know on axes, Trackers, Moras, shelters, cooking gear, etc. and I only know enough to scratch the surface. Only way to catch up is read.
Sometimes I have nothing to say but still want to let the poster know I appreciated their response or thread.
And sometimes I do both. Like now
@lodge camper i gave you a like even if you didn't want it
I didn’t know there was a like count of likes given . I know there is one for likes received, but a poster cannot influence his likes received count by going to old threads and liking a bunch of posts .
Most of the time I think old resurrected threads are from newbies searching the forum for things of interest to them . I did the same thing when I first arrived , skimmed through threads from present backwards looking for ones that appeared to have good bushcrafting info in them . Nothing sketchy about it, just using the forum for what I take to be it’s primary purpose , disseminating bushcraft wisdom .
No! to the post on page #1.
no, it's because the lickers gotta respond to most everything. they are in most every thread. liking, wanting to be liked, got to look around them for the real content.
I always give good natured horseplay a like. The more ridiculous, the better.
This is the internet. Who even cares? The most likes I got in any discussion anywhere was from asking how other prepping nuts brewed their coffee out in the field. Even people who seemed to disagree with my very existence got in on the coffee discussion.
Me too, I like most all posts I read, unless I don’t like them.
But, YOU are still here.
Another who needs a life (or some likes) IMO. A forum is for folks to have discussions. Sometimes, the like is the discussion, like said above. Tells the poster that someone cares. Sometimes a reply is helpful or just makes someone feel good.
I made a note to read around your posts...
This thread is useful after all. I discovered what the ignore function actually does! If you ignore someone, it hides their posts if you quote them. What a mess... Made me look like I was dissing @MrFixIt . So, an uningore (that is a word?) was in order.
Someone sounds bitter.
To "Like" someones post does not add to your stats anyway...only when someone "Likes" your post does it increase.
This thread is pure mayhem.
Yep, pretty sure it's called using the search function, lol. I do it all the time to older posts.
He is comparing this forum to facebook or instagram.
If I went around 'licking' everyone I bet I would also have a bitter taste in my mouth.
I am kinda new here so take this with a grain of salt. First I did not know we had stats and if we do I have no idea what they will do for us. But I get on here and read things and sometimes I reply to a post but I like most post. If I do not agree is when I don't like them and sometimes I like them anyway. Sometimes I am reading and have no idea it is a old post. I read what I am interested in and I don't really look at the date. If that is wrong I am sorry.
No one cares about when the original post was made, well apparently a couple do. Like away. I do. I recently liked a random post from 2015. Realized it and kept clicking the like buttons
. Thank you. Nice to know I am not doing anything wrong.
i disagree... i'll admit i like looking at a post of mine and seeing who appreciated it with a 'like', but it's primarily a way to say thanks, i agree, or good idea without having to write a meaningless post saying so. it's pretty time proven on this forum... going on 10 years? keeping count of "likes per user" next to ones name/avatar? sure, that could be dropped. it's been reset several times over the years anyway, and with a lot of older members is actually double or triple what 'shows'... THAT is kind of meaningless, to me. but I like the like button.
Let's play a game! I just went through and liked every comment except one. Who can find the post that I didn't like?
It used to and I apologize I had not noticed it changed and no longer was a stat. At one time some people did use that stat for giveaways and such much like being a supporter to be able to enter some giveaways.
I love reading old posts, especially some of the classics. There is so much valuable info stored on this site that I can never seem to get enough. I research and read posts here almost daily. When I read a post that increases my knowledge, makes me smile, or lets me live vicariously through someone else’s travels travels I “like it”. I don’t care if the post is new or old, it’s simply my way of showing appreciation that the Op took the time to share their knowledge and experience with me. I think it’s common courtesy.
I have to respectfully disagree with the concept that a “likefest” has driven any good member away. People come and go for many reasons but being threatened by the number of likes someone has is probably pretty low on the list. JMHO.
So can we cash in our 'likes' at the BCUSA store? If not then you young whippersnappers can just stop liking my posts. Or not.
Just one? I see a few.
I just liked @StinkBait post because I like the name stinkbait - makes me wanna go cat fishing!
I often like everyone's post in a thread I started, or in the knife pic threads to be nice - and I just generally like knife pics - not trying to be sketchy though.
I like Turtles
I do not LIKE this post. I am, and have been a supporter for many years because I like this place, not to get GAW's.
Yeah - there is a lot of good older content that you wouldn’t find without searching for it.
I use the "like" to acknowledge different things. That the information was useful. That I appreciate the person taking the time to respond. As a form of positive feedback.
In my opinion, the exchange of information and communication is what makes this place special in the first place. I really have no problem with commenting on older posts. YMMV
No, you did nothing wrong. That is how the forum is supposed to work. There are always those who think the world should work the way THEY see it. THEY are generally wrong.
Have FUN, that’s the key. If you see something you like, copy it and like it.
According to my calculations, I can retire at about 30,000 Likes. I’m going to cash them in and live comfortably throughout the remainder of my golden years. Much better than an IRA or a 401K Plan, so you boys get to liking my posts. I’m not getting any younger!
OK, but I can only like a post once. Post more...
You got me!
I click "like" so I can get paid by Fusion GPS and Cambridge Analytica.
I would have gotten away with it too!
Good catch, I goofed my own goof! It has been corrected! (The answer was supposed to be that I really liked every post )
I like that I can like a post that I like. I don't like posts that I don't like. I like it when people like my posts. I like people that like my posts because it lets me know they appreciated it and I like that. Do you like that I like to like posts? I'm a likeable guy that likes to give and receive likes.... like it or not.
I look at likes as a “thanks,” either for the information or participation. The folks here are pretty supportive and it’s a good way to acknowledge that. I don’t always like every post in a thread.
FWIW, I used to have a LOT more likes before Frea left.......
@pure_mahem I hit the like button on every post in this thread except for your posts. I wouldn't want to make you mad.
I use the like button on almost every post that I read. Sometimes because I like the post. Sometimes so that I know I've read it. Sometimes to let the poster know that I read or liked the post. Sometimes I wish we had a love button.
And I will continue to push the like button as much as I like. With both thumbs.
@slysir Dude Mikey likes it! Thats a throwback to the 80's - Nice! That was like a cliche back in the day. Everyone was like "Mikey likes it" . . . oh the "F" I got on my English test - "Mikey likes it!" haha.
Or was it the early 90's . . . it's all a blur.
