OK, I admit I didn't read every post on this thread, but if I see an old post that I missed and like the content, I hit like. I don't read every post everyday, and some fall off the radar, but if I like it I like it.. joe

I hear your likes go further in Guatemala thereby increasing the enjoyment of you're retirement. You have to learn a whole new language though so there's that.

I've noticed "likes" disappeared after the software change thing and all/most of the treads sort of got a reset on likes for some reason in the old/older treads.

I joined in ‘12 and wandered off into other hobbies. I re-discovered the forum in late ‘16 and found I was already a member! I liked that. Decided to stay, even though some people like my posts.

OMG, back to the ignore function. Maybe it is so silly that you shouldn’t look.

I do it sometimes but only right after I did it to begin with. Usually its right after what the poster meant, not what they said, sinks in. Also when I liked a post and realize its someone I would otherwise have on ignore if I used that feature.

The other forum I used to frequent wouldn't let you edit your post after so many minutes. That way you couldn't do something silly and get a lot of likes, then change your posted comment later to something like, "so and so is stupid" and it looked like everyone agreed with you, or add something most of those that liked it didn't agree with but didn't check back.
That might be a run on sentence?

I consider many of the people on here to be friends of mine.
Liking their posts is akin to smiling at them, or nodding agreement, or even disagreement, respectfully.

I have received amazing gifts from the folks here.... things of real value.
I have learned amazing things from the folks here... things of real value.
And I have shared things with the folks here, things that had value to me at least.

What cynical, devious plot is afoot by appreciating what others take the time to post? People like @MrFixIt and @NevadaBlue have a lot of likes. But to suggest they have those likes for no reason is absurd. Both of them have contributed hugely to this site, and are assets to it.

NOT liking a post often says a LOT more about the post than liking it does.
If posts being liked really ruins your day, I hope some joy and happiness come your way soon.

    H. Biker comments:
I wrote a new post but it got a quick like.
So I deleted it fast and went on a hike.

every thing I read I put mostly a like on,
Not so long ago I found this forum and start to read every time I can
I read a topic and go down after every comment, sometimes there are good ideas in the comments or new insights.

I just like what I read, and above all handy if the tread is to long to keep up where you stoped reading last time

If someone takes the time to contribute and I read it, I usually acknowledge it with a like. I'm Canadian. Clicking "Like" is like saying "Thank you." I dont want to offend anyone though so if there was a '"Sorry!" button I'd click that for every post too. Haha!!

Resurrecting old threads is a thing around here and I believe it's a good thing. BCUSA is a gold mine and we don't get caught up in the crapola you find in other sites, including encouraging people to read everything here and not running them off for resurrecting old stuff or for asking a question that's already been asked an answered a thousand times.

Pick a topic, any topic, and you can do research here for days. Many of us do just that, and it often takes us far back in time. I was way back to 2010 doing foraging research this week. I liked just about every post I read. SORRY! :D

I had 147 new likes when I logged on this morning.
Now if we can cash them in I’m retiring early.

I have been reading some of what you post for a long time before I became a member here and since I became a member I have started watching your videos. You have liked some of my post and I was honored. No need to be sorry for that. To be honest other than the great reading you and @NevadaBlue , @central joe, @MrFixIt and a few others are the reason I joined the site.

I'm pretty sure that "likes" are about the same as "points" you earn with your significant other. While you may have a running tally, they are worth about as much as S&H Green Stamps these days. :D

That's very kind of you. Thank you so much. This is a fantastic site with awesome members! The content here is unparalleled, and just as importantly, most of us are pretty encouraging and supportive most of the time. The more positive contributions we have the better, in my humble opinion!

There are a lot of fine, knowledgeable people on this site ( I'm not one of them) and I consider "likes" thank you's and acknowledgements of that fact.

Someone is liking your posts from years ago @pure_mahem and that bothers you?
There is nothing sketchy about that at all.

    It means they like it.
    They enjoyed reading it.
Perhaps they found something useful from it.
Maybe they just want to know that they read it.

Whatever their reason, they sure aren't doing it to help themselves in any way. That is also not how likes work on here on BCUSA.
The only person who benefits from any of your posts receiving a like is you.

An individual cannot give themselves more likes or improve their own Likes to Messages ratio @pure_mahem and @lodge camper because you cannot like your own posts.
Likes on Your Messages are Your Likes.
    pure_mahem.JPG

Chances are this is happening because someone was searching a topic via the search tool which we are always encouraging people to use and cam across an old post that they found helpful.

There are also some (myself included) who will use advanced search parameters on Google to find what they are looking for. This is a great way to find information that might be missed by the on-site search function.
This search technique is especially useful when you the BCUSA's on-site search tool cannot find something because the query entered was too short. Fore example, if you were only using this as a means of research for something very general, such as the term "NY", BCUSA will give you the following result:

When you run search on Google with advanced parameters though, you can a whole lot regarding the term. 15,800 results actually!

That wasn't always the case AdirondackBadger and in a follow up post I apologized because I hadn't realized it had been changed. Also to be clear it isn't about liking my post or not from back then. Honestly I could care less if anyone likes my posts or not. Just noticed it because it pops up in my alerts. I do check to see what someone clicked and liked on. Memories not what it used to be and I have quite a few posts over the years. I thought it odd for someone to like every post in the topic. But apparently some do that to mark their place while reading old threads. Still odd I came across 6 different people doing that this year and not before. But hey enjoy the likes I gave everyone here at least one for participation.

I like that you all took time to share your opinions on what I noticed and had concerns about but apparently isn't a concern of what I thought it used to done did be, lol. Lot of good laughs in here as well, Thanks!

Rains finally letting up and the suns peaking out looks like a good time to get out, yall have a good un!
