I have been kicking around the idea of doing some small runs of white and Woodland Camo tarps. Probably 10X10s to start with. Maybe a few 5X8 special MESTs. What say you ?

IF they are going to be the same as the current BCUSA tarps Silnylon, stuff bags and with the same tie points and all, I'd say go for it. No need for the white for me....not much snow in FL to blend in to.....but the woodland would be great. Personally, I'm not keen on the 5x8, 5x7 sizes, just not my thing I guess. BUt I am sure there are others that would like 'em.

I think it is a great idea. I have always preferred the woodland camo pattern for the woods over some of the more modern types. I'm an old Soldier!!! I think a white pattern would be great too for those of us who live in climates that have snow, will help us to blend in better!

Sizes, 10' x 10' is a perfect size IMHO, but I also like the 5' x 8' and MEST sizes for my day/BOB/GetHome kits.

    Go for it!

Since I don't get out anymore my opinion doesn't count, but I think a white one could be used in the winter with a small fire to reflect more heat. As in the super shelter scenario, but a lot more durable than a space blanket. joe

We are looking at 70d coated nylon for both products. That will be less expensive than the sil-nylon.

So, to us non-technical-about-nylon folks... what's the actual difference?

Bushcraft Outfitters Coyote Brown Silnylon 10' x 10' Tarp

This product uses a higher denier count nylon which gives the product the best strength at the lightest weight. We use tabs, evenly spaced, instead of grommets because they are stronger, more durable, as well as easily field repairable if the need arises.

    • 1.3 oz silicon impregnated ripstop nylon
    • Stuff sack included
    • Tabs: 16 perimeter and 3 additional ridge line
    • Weight (includes stuff sack): 1 lb, 2 oz.
    Bushcraft Outfitters 10' x 10' Tarp

    Coyote:

    • 70D 1.9 oz ripstop nylon
    • .75 oz/yd Urethane coating
    • Stuff sack included
    • Tabs: 16 perimeter and 3 ridge line
    • Weight (includes stuff sack): 1 lb, 9 oz

Both materials are durable and waterproof. The big difference for me is weight and size when packed. I carry sil-nylon whenever possible.

I sounds like a great size of those that want a little more. Options are good. 8x8 or 10x10 sounds good.

White sounds good for people in snow country and also will work as a good signal panel if needed in areas of vegetation.
