Bushfam! Took the afternoon to do a few things I have been wanting to try. Liking my new stuff my gals got me for Christmas. I'm still in the middle of moving everything around and in the correct bag. I used a just add water broccoli and cheese soup I picked up to try out. Really easy bring 4 cups of water to a boil add the package, simmer for 5 minutes and it's done. Also delicious. Perfect for a trip, add some bread and a couple pieces of jerky and excellent meal. I wanted to duplicate an experiment @NWPrimate did not long ago involving hammering a nail into a blade with stones. Shaping/sharpening it on stones and creating a useable cutting tool. It didn't have a long cutting edge, but it had one. Driven into a piece of poplar with a stone. Bent and pressed into the handle material and wrapped in Muscadine vine. Turned out well. It's no ESEE but it will cut cordage or gut a fish/process small game. Make a feather stick ( kinda ) was fun to make. I made a hoko knife for old times sake too. I done some stone breaking this morning ( can't say knapping yet ) and have enough pieces of stone to make a hundred of these things. I remember making one for my bushclass, and I still have it sitting by my chair. Broke out the tomahawk to practice with a little today. I know it's not something you really have to practice at, but using unfamiliar tools to accomplish familiar tasks sharpen skills IMO. Soup out of a Stainley cup! Was good stuff! While I tried to recover from scalding my mouth.. I carved a stake out of a piece of maple. Was a good time out. Practicing skills, hot food, a little time to just pretend I don't have to work this week.. anywho! If it ever stops raining I have some fun stuff planned but I don't feel like doing it in the rain.. thought I'd share! Thanks all
I meant to also say that the nail knife on a stick was pretty interesting. The stone work, Brudda was better than any I can do. What kind of stone? I need to look into that muscadine binding. Hmmm
Nice lil day trip. Looks like fun! If that soup had been Kraft brand, you could say the whole trip was Kraft oriented.
