I have been to Sandhills State Park many times. It's located near McBee, SC. No hiking involved you can drive in. Fire only in designated fire pit. They have a pond and have latrine's through out. So, it's not primitive but it's a nice place. There are three areas in particular, spots #10, 11 and 12 that are grouped together and are somewhat wooded and somewhat separated from the others. There is a charge of $10.00 per site per night which is cheap and could be divided up among everyone. If this sounds like a place we would like to have a meet I will arrange it. I will be at Terry's school in NC March 11,12 and 13 and out of town Feb 4, 5 and 6 but other than that I'm game. Post here to let me know if you are interested.

I'm not sure how everyone else feels but camping for me is over for the season when it starts getting warm so if we want to get it in we probably need to do it soon.

Cold weather camping FTW! I know it is a little short-notice, but how about the last weekend of this month? Saturday and Sunday the 29th/30th?

Can't do anything in Jan, Turkey season comes in mid March... so... anytime in Feb works for me, in general... the wife also retains full veto power with limited notice, but... if I start talking nice to her now... :)

Hey David, I am guessing you have been to the park a few times - what are the chances that the spots will be reserved before that weekend? I am for sure going, is it possible to reserve one campsite just in case?

Wanted to get your opinion before I call the park office.

MD. I was there a few weeks ago and we had the entire place to ourselves. I doubt seriously they would be taken. I normally call to reserve a site at the beginning of the week I'm going and have never had any trouble. They are not busy this time of year. The folks at the office are easy to deal with and they take credit/debit cards on the phone. Are you going Jan 27,28 and 29?

Yep, unless something weird happens at work. I have told the bosses I am taking off that weekend, so really the only thing that would keep me away would be if someone got sick and I had to fill in.

Of course you are welcome, Augusta is right on the line anyway. We need to plan a meet far enough out that everyone can make arrangements.

Can you bring dogs to this park? We just got a puppy and i'm not sure the wifey will let me leave her with both kids and the puppy at the same time.

Yes, you can take dogs. For horse riders they allow those with a few ristrictions.

I will be there for sure. Was thinking of just a one - nighter, either fri or sat is fine by me. Just needing to get out, test some of my cold weather sleep gear, and breathe a little woodsmoke!

You are right. It is quiet. I can't go and I didn't really think I was gonna be able to.

What does everyone think about planning a meet far enough in advance that everyone could plan to be there. Say Fall of 2011?

If we can figure something out before Apr. I'm in. The wife has to go TDY for 6 mo. so I will out during that whole time. Basically, between now and Apr 10 I'm in!!

If nobody else is coming out, I think I'm gonna head back up to Sumter NF tomorrow for a bit of a hike. Nothing against Sandhills, its just an area I know, and its only 40 minutes from home. I'll check the thread tomorrow before I head out (around noon-ish) and see if anyone jumped in. If so we will still go for Sandhills.

And with a little luck we can plan something on a longer time frame that I can actually show up for! (I get insanely busy from March thru Sept)

I.....LOVE....THE SANDHILLS OF SC! Any chance you guys will be going there during the summer? I've been there seriously over 200 times doing snake research on the wildlife drive.

Also, I have a private hunting plantation near...well I guess the closest city would be Pineville, SC. We can practice shelter building, firecraft, fishing, etc there, and shoot all that you would want. Would like to keep the group small if possible.

I don't know about the summer Joe, may be. I'm only one person but I don't camp much in summer but that's just me man.

This would be great Joe and thank you very much for offering!

You are right Jeff this is your back yard.

That's cool man we are all novice's just before we learn the very next thing.

Joe, I appreciate the offer, lol..We may take you up on that, hoss. I'm in for an overnighter at least, a weekend would be better. But I'll be moving apartments in late march, that will be my only issue.

Not a unanimous decision Jeffery. I could not go but Mister Dark mention that he may go. Man, it is so hard to get a weekend that everybody is free. As I mention I think if we set a date far enough in advance most could make arrangements. Or picked a few dates and do a poll and let everyone vote then pick the winner. ???

I like the idea of a poll, but either way I just need a few weeks notice is all. I have to make arrangements with the boss..... She doesnt get it.

Can I recommend the 12-13th of Feb and a fallback position of 19-20 of Feb, the week after? If the majority can't make either day keep on plugging for another date..

no need to mention that this is a weekend unlike others; if you're not spending time with your other half you're wrong. We're gonna have to try a different weekend for sure. How's March looking for everyone?

    Hey guys,
not to thread hijack, but i just got clearence to hold a get together near Pineville, SC some time this summer, on private property.

We will be allowed to shoot, cut down any trees for firewood or shelters that we need (within reason), fish and will have access to a lodge with restroom facilities, etc. I would love to start generating some feedback for it.
