How well it works for a day hike? Well if the Swedish army used it for years I dont think its so bad. However many friends of mine that used it in service talks about how they added pieces of sleepingpads and duct tape to make the frame nicer to carry for long periods of time with heavy loads.

The frames are lighter than you would think. They dont seem as heavy as an ALICE frame.
They are a bit large as a day pack

I don't have one but I have always wanted to get one and see how it preformed. It looks really nice and functional. Yours seems to be in great shape! I can't wait to see what everyone else has done with their packs.

    LK35 + MOLLE II belt

The MOLLE hip belt made all the difference for me with this pack. When the extra 2 pounds feel like part of your body instead of something hanging on your back, they don't matter. For a longer hike it would be fine, especially if you have smaller kids and they can't share too much of the carrying. Otherwise I use the German rucksack or another modern pack, I guess.

Swedish Army guys also warn against going prone quickly w/out a waistbelt because it will slide up and the frame will pop you square in the back of the head/helmet.

Here is another load-out diagram from the Swedes:

My 35LK-SJ (Medic) has a padded waist belt and better shoulder straps then the LK35. The medic frame is also larger (longer and wider).

I guess this is kind of related. Does anybody know the dimensions of the front pouch and side pouches of the LK 70?

Is that the "canvas" version? Mine from SG appears to be typical nylon. Thanks

Pretty sure it's a heavy nylon with a coating inside -much more of an dark od colour than the one I had from SG years ago -it was green green

the best vintage pack I've tried

    9ef60f83fe016fc9c91332a77db2d442.jpg

I had never noticed these on the forum but stumbled upon one in a thrift and couldn't pass it up. I took it out Sunday and really liked it. I may add a kidney pad for larger loads, but outside of that I'm really enjoying it.

Has someone got pics how the Molle II waist belt is added to the frame? I am specially interested how You positioned the straps on to the frame...

I was thinking about picking one of these up, but the surplus sights have dried up on these. Found them at swiss link for over 60 dollars.

Just run them through the frame where they wont' slip upward, and cinch the Molle belt. (BTW, the desert ACU Molle belt was less than ten bucks new, and the slightly worn ACU was from a whole box of them at a local surplus shop for $5 each!)

The one above is a bit high on a LK 35 frame for a young boy.

I've put one on an LK70 for me, so it's set lower. The original belt was not working too well for me, but really I had the pack too heavy and I'm out of shape. The Molle belt did seem to provide a good improvement.

One of my frames had rust in spots. Can you sand and repaint it? If its not rusted through you should be able to. These pack frames are worth the time to repair them if you can.
Did you get a canvas or cordura pack?

Just got my ruck in the mail today. I am 99.99% sure that it a nylon unissued bag. It had the made in Sweden tag on it and zero stains or scratches. I could not be more pleased. Keepshooting has always treated me well!

The LK50 is extremely rare. I have never seen one. There was a post by sealegs about Swedish military equipment somewhere on here. Maybe someone will dig it up. I would love to get a LK70 though...

I'm glad to see this thread come back to life. I had one and loved it, but sold it after I got a new Osprey Kestrel. I currently have just the bag sitting in my garage, I was going to make a frame for it but don't know that I have the time.

I just found out about these myself, nice looking pack at a nice price.

@GETOUT73 I found the KL35s in the US for $30
    Swedish Military Backpack with Frame

I also found a Swedish gear bundle that has the two PLCE pouches I've seen attached to the exterior
Amazon.com : Ultimate Arms Gear Surplus Swedish Combat Cross Chest Rig Carrying Equipment Load Bearing Canteen Ammo Mag Pouch System with Adjustable Shoulder Straps, Canvas OD Olive Drab Green : Sports & Outdoors

Not dirt cheap but by the time you pay shipping and sew those on you are still talking less than $80-100

Hope that helps! Hopefully they'll be some left when I'm ready to buy :)

For sub $30 you can get a LK35 and MOLLE waistbelt from SG -but you need to be patient.

I lucked out and got the medical version of the LK35 (SJ35) new on eBay. It came with a waist belt and the frame is the same as the LK70. If the LK35 is anything like that then it should be a great pack. The waist belt on mine made it so none of the weight dug into my shoulders and made for an enjoyable hike.
