    Man, this site is going to be the death of my bank account I swear! I'm not in, I don't think I can wait my turn to try one out lol. I've been a bass fishermen for many years and fly fishing never really appealed to me, it always seemed like more of an investment than I was willing to spend just to see if I liked it or not. To be honest I looked into it once and the cost of the backing turned me off quickly. The simplicity and size of this type of the Tenkara system appeals to me quite a bit though. I don't suppose you fellas could recommend a decent starter kit that isn't going to cost me 2-300 bucks?

    First off I'd say give the pass around a shot, it make convince you on the quality of a more expensive rod.

    Second, I have an excellent rod that I love. The Badger Tenkara "Bad Axe".
    It's brought in trout between two inches and fourteen, I've even hooked up and brought 16"+ largemouth in with it.
    As for lines and flies, start with a simple level line, some 5x tippet and pick up some of the cheapest flies you can find. You WILL lose them.

    Have fun, I know I have!

    Believe me I know all about expensive rods! I went through the same dilemma when I first really got into bass fishing, it took me a couple of years of exclusively buying the cheap stuff before I made the plunge to the high end rods and reels. The difference in my mind being I’ll be traipsing around in the field with this rod and I’d be a lot less worried about tearing it up if I only spent 100 bucks or so on it.

    Badger Tenkara makes a great rod, like @CivilizationDropout said the Bad Axe is a nice rod for the money and one I highly recommend.

    I have a Nissin Pro-Spec zoom in that size or I would be all over April. If there is anyone in CT who wants to give Tenkara and this pass-around a try, I'd be happy to tag along as a poor mans teacher/guide.

    The set is off to @AlexD and should arrive tomorrow for his turn with it. He has scouted some nice looking spots so we can look forward to an excellent report!

    I have a report from early May I’ll be posting. The middle of the month was blown out with high water, but I’m hoping for some good action this coming week. The rod is sweet!

    Looking forward to the report! Start a thread under Outings, Trips and Expeditions and just put a link here.

    @AlexD and @adkwalker be sure to remain in communication about getting it from one part of NY to the other, or maybe just meet in-between!

    It could have been perfect, and @adkwalker is ready to send it to me, but I'm not ready for it right now. :( @Primordial is next I believe? @Pastor Chris, could you please bump me back to the end of line?

    Changes have been made in the second post to reflect where we currently are. Thanks all!

    @Pastor Chris. I'm in no rush right now. Just started a new job and I'm working so many hours I barely have time to sleep, let alone fish.

    I haven’t been on the forum much during the very busy summer at church, but @Primordial should still have the set and it is going to @bacpacjac next. Is that still good for both of you?

    @Pastor Chris and @Primordial ,
    I appreciate it fellas, but work has me busier than the one legged man at a butt kicking contest. I'd rather get skipped untill I know I'll have a chance to actually use it.
