    7DC93889-91F9-458B-B270-6F80664E88C0.jpeg t.darrahs Pass-around Challenge #3 “Guys vs Gals” offers up two new bushcraft Persians by forum member calafia666;

    Gals Persian
    Maker: First People’s Tools
    Model: Persian
    Steel: 1/8” Nitro V (heat treat by Peters)
    Handle: Wrapped
    Sheath: kydex

    Guys Persian
    Maker: First Peoples Tools
    Model: Persian
    Steel: 5/32” Nitro V (heat treat by Peters)
    Handle: matte black micarta
    Sheath: kydex

    I will select three Guys for the men’s side and three Gals for the ladies side as Pass-around participants that will get to use the Persian for one Challenge outing(the one outing can be a day trip, and overnighter or a multi day adventure). In keeping with the spirit of calafia666 “First People’s Tools” the outing should be focused on primitive skills, such as;
    1. friction fire (bow or hand)
    2. natural cordage
    3. food forage
    4. primitive tool
    5. ...
    PM your proposed primitive skills outing for selection.

    After selecting the winner for both the Gals side and Guys side, all participants will then vote on the overall winner between the two winners, the overall winner will receive an HC Mess Kit.

    Pass-around Challenge Rules;
    1) Must be forum member with Supporter status!
    2) Must agree to post bushcraft Challenge outing report(s) with pictures and or videos.
    3) Must agree to ship the knife to next participant in good condition (clean, sharp and ready to use) and cover the cost of insured shipping (three knives must be to next participant on or before first of their month).
    4) Agree to participate in scoring. Scoring based on quality of Challenge report(s) posted.
    5) Best Gal score gets Gals Persian / best Guys score ets the Guys Persian / best overall gets the HC Mess Kit.
    6) These are quality bushcraft blades which deserve a strong effort by all that enter.

    Gals Entries:

    Guys Entries:

    I've been sleeping on this one. Before I sending a pm I have some questions

    This First People's Tools Persian knife would not be good for batoning or hard woods, correct?

    If I am currently in the middle of a pass around(think we are waiting on scoring or if gohammergo is getting a redo)can I still participate.

    Does anyone mind that I love entering @t.darrah 's passarounds and will join every one if given the chance. They are a great way to get to know different blades, different skills, and getting to know all the different members on here

    In regard to concern about batoning and overall bushcraft capability of the Persian here is a quote from Calafia666;

    As for the tip, I wouldn't worry about it too much, the NitroV is crazy tough. I beat the crap out of mine in the AZ desert and it held up perfectly.”

    It's good to go for batoning all wood. Meant for hard use, either for self defense or woodcraft.

    I would love to participate but weather this time of year makes for sucky outings and nothing dry or forageable. In another month or so it’s a bit different. The challenge would be a good one though to develop my lacking primitive type skills.

    Who wouldn't want to test out a cool knife like that? All you have to do is take it out and play with it for a day, and pay shipping to forward it.....oh yeah, and you could WIN IT too!!! Seems like a small price to pay for a top notch tool.

    Weather is a factor for me as well. Not enough to ruin a good effort though, just have to adapt a bit and it'll be fine.

    Early “first peoples” hunters-gathers didn’t get to wait on fair weather, just sayin!

    I will work up a suitable plan after lunch and send it in.

    Primitive fun to be had! Love me some friction fire practice!

    Weather has never really been a concern of mine.

    Thanks,

    The main benefit that I see to later in 2018 is what plants are growing/currently forageable. Other than that, I have confidence the members here can adapt to the weather conditions they are faced with.

    Either way. Outside of an absolute deluge I'd be down to try it sooner rather than later. As others have said the first peoples went about their business regardless.

    I’m telling ya guys & gals. Come up with a plan & PM it in. The Persian is an AWESOME blade and very well built. It can handle whatever you throw at it. I just got done participating in Pass-Around Challenge #2 & guys you better start filling up the list or I’m going to ask for a round #2 for myself just to get my hands on the Persian again.....it’s that much fun to use !

    This above was my main concern. It's easier for members in a more mild climate to forage more food and material with their earlier growing seasons. The actual weather condition of the "day" doesn't really matter to me so as much what I can find resource wise to make a kick ass outing. For instance a member at the base of the Montana Rockies has less resources in March where it's still winter, than say a member in Tennessee hills who has a "balmy spring" in comparison. Seasonal resources could be an advantage to our fair weathered forum friends.

    The "First people" didn't have cars. :D

    Ha! Now that's more like it! Been there, done that before!

    If all are overly concerned about weather I could hold off sending out to the first users until end of March.

    I'm solid in my place. I'll let the other's decide what's right for them. If they want a move to start in late March that would be fine by me. If they choose to keep it as is, I'm fine with that too.
