Yep, I just ordered a sheath for my BB from Ben's, hoping it might fit the Terava. I have the 110 though, not the 140. Great to deal with and fast shipping.

I'd love to see a comparison between a BB/Kansbol and the Terava!

Somewhat OT from the original post, but here's a good comparison between the Kansbol and the Mora Garberg.

According to their website, the 110 carbon will be back in stock in 10 weeks, and the 140 carbon in 9 weeks. :(

I saw that too, a couple weeks ago actually. Only then, it said 8 weeks!

Done that a couple weeks ago! Watching the site and my inbox daily!

That much is good to know. I think that between all of us here on BCUSA, the publicity they've gotten from certain YouTube celebrities, and the general internet, no one saw this level of product demand.

Last time they went out of stock they said 5 weeks and were back in stock at 3 weeks. I never got a notification from them that they were back in stock. I just kept checking once a day.

    They're back in stock now....

I'll have to order one later today or this weekend (if I get a chance and they're still there). They only have 38 pcs of the 140 with leather sheath as of this morning. I was not prepared to have them in stock so soon. So you were right!

Wow...thanks for the heads-up! Ordered another 110 so I could get a sheath with it this time. Plus, the knife is so great, I want to keep one as a second so that I'll always have one. :)

Didn't get an email notification though, even though I had signed up for it.

I noticed that I you look at the Puukkos and Leukus page, they show out of stock. I only see them as in stock when I go directly to that product's page.. Weird. Maybe they just didn't update the site properly or something.

Yep, I noticed that. It accepted my order though, so I'm hoping they actually do have them in stock. It's weird they said 10 weeks until the new stock would come in, then all of a sudden they appeared for order.

By the way.. I split up a Birch round last night to start on a large cooking spoon and used the 140 to smooth out the top of the blank.. Really starting to like this knife!

    I
I did just a short time ago as well. At that time there were about 15 pieces of the 140 carbon with leather sheath.

I placed my order and by the time I finished there were only 7 left.

My Kansbol arrived from Ben's today as well. I think I'm going to love that knife. No box from Ben's, in fact the knife and sheath were wrapped in newspaper - then put in a usps sealable bag for shipping. I guess that's OK, just unexpected. It arrived new and in great shape.

I can tell the grind was done by hand as it's slightly uneven bit still hair shaving sharp. Very nice knife.

As soon as I get my Terava 140 I'll do up a simple comparison with that, the kansbol, bushcraft black, companion and maybe companion HD.

I'm surprised but not surprised at the crazy high demand for this verusteleka knives... Let's hope it meets expectations based on the hype..

Hey, looking forward to hearing what you think. I love my 110! I actually bought it before it became such a hot commodity, but then one of the YouTube guys did a review and that was the beginning of the stampede.

Can we get some impressions on the 140 stainless?
I'm 40miles from Varusteleka, but every time I go, they've run out... Thanks to you guys :D

Is it worth having in stainless or only good in carbon? Will it be too bulky a handle for a girl with size 8 paws?
It just might work as an allaround thingie when going out with the kayak or without, just a brew or a night in the woods.

I can't speak to the stainless, but I'd say the handle would be fine for you. It doesn't have any finger grooves, so your fingers can be put wherever you want them for a good grip. I'd say the grip is slightly thicker than the grip on a Mora Garberg, but not by a lot. I'm a guy but have pretty small hands, and the handle feels great to me.

I like the stainless one I have. I have both. The carbon will be easier to sharpen when it needs it, but the stainless should stay sharper longer. They each have their own plus's and minus's.

I looked on the there today and they were all sold out, both types of steel. Was going to get one or the other, or both along with a sheath for my skrama.

I wonder how long before they work something out and have a stateside dealer selling these on their behalf.

If they're already having trouble keeping up with demand I'm not sure why they'd bother.

Good point. I had read that they only have one small-ish shop making all of the Terava knives.

I guess the more likely thing to ask is how long until they raise the price!? Lol.

Right? Haha. I went ahead and got the 110 out of fear that their quality may suffer if they get too popular.

Yea, I think we keep their factory running overtime. :dblthumb:

The handle is not thin, but the material and its texture should allow for a solid grip even if your fingers don't wrap completely around. As far as carbon steel or stainless... I think you answered your own question when you used the word 'kayak'. The flats are coated, but the primary grind is not. Personally I would not want to be near water for any length of time with uncoated 1095.

The point exactly, but if the stainless is poop, then the $6 mora will do just fine.

Laurin metalli is sure keeping busy.

I have had the same problem when it came to deciding on which to get. SS or Carbon. I ended up getting both! I will say though that it is not that big of a deal to prevent rust. I use a mix that has been used for a very long time. It is actually supposed to be what the Finns used to protect their gun stocks. It is called 1/3 mix. You take equal amounts of BLO, turpentine, bees wax. Melt the bees wax over a double boiler. Remove it from the flame and add the BLO, then the turpentine. Mix very well and let cool off. I put mine in a large plastic tub with a lid. It works awesome.

My Terava 140 left Finland on the 9th, tracking info hasn't changed since then... thinking it's sitting at the dock waiting for the cargo ship to fill up, OR US Customs is slow as crap processing inbound goods.

How long has everyone else had to wait to get their order from Verusteleka.com?

I placed my order on 3/4/17... it was processed 3/7 and 3/8 (the 4th and 5th was the weekend). I'd have expected it to arrive to the US border sometime last week.. It's usually only 2-3 days USPS travel time from the East coast customs point to my house in Michigan... so perhaps it'll just "show up" some day this week.

BTW...the number of weeks until they expect stock I believe is not say 12 weeks from now, but I believe the the week of the year as in the 12th week of this year. That's at least how I understood the ones I was looking at. So that might explain why they are showing up in stock earlier than you think. That being said, I just ordered a Skrama and can't wait to get it.

Once my order hit the USA, I picked up tracking via USPS tracking.

The tracking on the other side of the Atlantic was via Posti.

Same original tracking number assigned by Posti picked it up through USPS.com tracking.

I noticed that... Posti says they passed it on to the carrier on it's way to the destination country... USPS is what I pasted above and has not changed since the 9th...

"We have received notice that the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece."

So I sometimes find with USPS that the item will be delivered and about a weeks worth of tracking updates will be applied after the fact. Not always.. but I've had it happen. So I'm just hoping I come home from work one day and it's sitting there on the porch.

The response to my question from the very nice people at Varusteleka:

"Thank you for contacting us! Normally the shipping time to the US is 7 to 30 days.
However, It has come to our attention that there are some issues with parcels to the US, so unfortunately I am not surprised your package is on a standstill as well. My apologies for the delay!
The problem could be similar we experienced on December; the JFK having congestion with international parcels and therefor all items that haven't been scanned yet on that end, seem to be in their original countries still.
I hope this gets resolved soon, but if the problem persists, we will resend your order and hope it gets through.

Please contact us again if nothing happens with the delivery within a week."

Must still be stuck in customs.

The customs delay must be very unpredictable.

My package was in and out of customs in less than 5 minutes, per the USPS tracking.

That is a very informative reply.. I'm impressed that they took the time to look that deep into it and are offering to resend the order if need be.

I got an update from Varusteleka:

    "Hi!

I just got an answer from the Finnish Posti, that indeed the problem lies on the JFK end. They are having massive delay with handling international parcels. I'm afraid now we just have to wait that they get the job done.
I truly hope you'll be getting your order soon so you can enjoy the awesomeness of Leka products! :D"

So blame it on US customs at JFK Intl. Airport.....

I think mine took at least a week after it said it cleared customs. It will say something like "in bound out of customs" Then it was 3 days just to hand over to USPS. Then 4 days to arrive.

    I still got nothing guys..

    "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment"

So WTH? Did the Finnish post send it? Did it reach JFK customs? Is it lost? There is this grey area between borders where shipments don't get tracked or updated, scanned or logged... could've fallen off the side of the cargo ship for all I know!

5,000 years from now, researchers will find my Terava 140 encased in silt stone and it'll be the next Otzi knife!
