So in 2015/2016 I participated in the "Trip Report Challenge". It was pretty awesome and now I want to host a 2017/2018 version. I am going to be blessed with an abundance of outing opportunities this year so hopefully this will encourage others to get out as well. The original TRC, hosted by @agranite can be found in this thread.
    https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/2015-trip-report-challenge.141696/

So here is how it works. Get out!! Once a month, take a picture from the same location documenting the entire year. Can be something local and easy, a day hike, or something more challenging.

    RULES:
Month #1 will be July 2017. This will give people a chance to get in on the action. You will need 10 submissions to qualify. So if you miss a month here or there you can still make the cut. No new entries will be accepted after September. At that point less than 10 months will remain and qualification will be impossible.

    PRIZE:
For every month this continues to run I will scrape up $10 to put in the pot for a total of $120 at the end. Anyone who completes all 12 months will receive an extra slot in the random drawing at the end. Once a winner has been chosen I will order gear of their choice totaling that amount (including shipping) from a vendor of their choice or from the trade blanket on the forum. For the record, I'm not running a tab. If the winners gear choice totals say $117 the $3 is a wash and is what it is. If the item is a full $120 and I can work a shipping deal or it's cheap or free we can make it work. I'm not sending cash and not holding a nickel and dime slush fund. Winner gets a one time order and we're good to go.

ADDED PRIZE!!! @hicountry has graciously donated a Jeff White knife to the pot!!

So with that said, who's in? I'll do my best to keep a tab in the OP of everyone participating and how many photos they've submitted after they make their first entry post. I hope you guys can get out and enjoy this challenge as much as I did.

    !!!!!!! GO !!!!!!!

I'm in. My goal was to start one night a month in January. So far I only went on an overnight January 1st. I hope this is the push I need to actually do it.

You can just post here. At the end when I entered I made a thread that had all 12 photos in chronological order in one post so you could really see the seasons change. If you wanna do that at the and as a "final submission" that's cool. But you can just throw your monthly pic in the comments here. It'll keep the thread lively!

Yes July 2017. I thought about starting it now but I want to make sure anyone who chooses to participate has full months with which to get their outings in.

I'm in. The desert doesn't change much, but there is a usually dry creek only about an hour away that I will use.

Do the trips have to be overnights or can it be a mix of day trips and overnights? As long as same place.

No rules at all. Change it up however you like. The only rule is it has to be the same camera shot for each photo. And that's kinda flexible. Just stand in the same area and view. No need to stake a spot and set up tripods and do calculations or anything like that.

It would be epic though if someone made all 10-12 shots night shots. Or maybe took them from out on the water and then on the ice in winter. Obviously not required. Cool ideas though, just sayin ;)

Will it count if its one of my swamp walks? It'll be close to home for the incoming baby but far enough I can call it getting out.... :D

If so I'll try, no harm in trying right?

I'll shoot this once a month!

It's from my swamp walk last night.

Yep, just take that same picture every month for at least 10 months and you're good to go. It doesn't start till July so if you think of or find a different view you wanna use that's cool too :dblthumb:

Yea, just a little challenge to get people some outside time even if it only takes 15-20 minutes. No need to summit mount Olympus. However, if you do get 12 photos from the summit of mount Olympus I'll give you 5 total entries!!!

This is showing great interest so far!!! We will see how the field holds up as the year wears on. Also, I've decided to offer a third prize option. Should the winner choose, I will donate the $120 to any cause or fundraiser that's active at that point here on the forum.

Hope you enjoy it!!! I love my hammock. I still ground sleep from time to time. Espically in colder months. My plan for tomorrow is some beachcraft gonna have a fire and percolate some coffee for the sunrise on the water.

Sounds fun. I'm debating on what location to use that will work with our weather regardless of time if year.

here's the spot I picked- Mt Helena summit- a couple of ways to get to the top, none easy- it's a 1200'+ climb regardless of the route. Mt Helena city park is the second largest city park in the nation (NY's Central Park the largest)- probably 50+ miles of single track trails to bomb around on, very blessed to have this in my backyard

had my buddy with this morning just catching sunrise

    July 2nd

IMG_1764.JPG I think I am going to do my picture from the woods behind my house. I know I can get there every month. Old road that is about the only flat spot in the woods I have.

I made a video of my day out too.

My July submission. This is an area that is behind the shop at my work.
I'll attempt to snap a picture every month at @ 0700 no matter the weather conditions.

I'm scouting for the perfect spot. I almost picked this one from our nature walk yesterday, because there's almost always garbage there, but think it's that's too cynical and depressing. :(

I like @MrFixIt idea of a fixed time and date. Im gona go with 2nd monday of the month at 16h30.

My spot is in a reasonably big city park that is half grass/ half wild. 1 hour of walk. Made sure i would need snowshoes in the winter! IMG_20170710_162939423.jpg

I really liked this staghorn sumac tunnel.

And thanks to @EvanStinson , i got out on a crappy day and ended up passing an extra hour scouting for a photo spot and finding lots of nice plants for friction fire and stuff.:dblthumb:

    August.
Was a few days later due to schedule complications... IMG_20170710_162939423.jpg

Wait! We don't have to do it on the same day and time every month, do we?

We dont HAVE to, but it sounded fun to me. Since my spot is close to home, i wanted to add a twist to it. MrFixIt 's idea...i just love it.
