Well, I could use a few cooking supplies still, so I'm in! Thanks for the chance. Let's see what I got for photos.... 00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20190704151458034_COVER.jpg

It's not very "Bushcrafty", but it's what I cooked for my friend and myself this evening.
    IMG_20190804_193757451.jpg
So I guess I'm going to throw my name in the hat for my friend that I'm slowly prying from in front of the TV by secretly building him a kit.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this.

Hey, what the heck, I'll enter! All of my food gear and tents and packs got stole a few years ago so this would make getting going again waaaaay easier! Whoever gets it, this is a very kind thing you are doing. Good on you!

Havent cooked over a campfire in a long time but here are some teriyaki pineapple chicken kebabs I made on our charcoal grill. They were great! gotta keep the pineapple separate after they are off the grill or their juice will make the chicken kind of... chalky? It's a weird texture.

    Anyway, cheers!

I'm in, lost the bulk of my backpacking gear to a flood a couple years ago. Here's a pic that makes my wife and I smile every time we see it.
We were meeting my cousin and his wife for an overnight camping trip. We were to supply libations and snacks and they were bringing food for dinner and breakfast. The afternoon was pleasant with great weather and everyone laughing having a good time. I decided to walk to the river to see if the fish were biting as they started to talk about preparing dinner. I heard loud voices coming from the direction of our campsite a few minutes later and decided I should check things out. Walking up the steep incline to the camp I heard something hit in the brush near me. When I walked into the campsite my cousin was shoving their tent into the back of his truck and his wife was throwing food over the bluff we were camped by. After squeezing everything into the vehicle including the tent that was not folded only forced into the truck bed they apologized to us and left. I asked my wife what happened and she said she had no idea. They were fine one minute then it was on the next.
Luckily we had hot dogs, chili, and buns along with my cast iron pan but no stove. I managed to find an onion that was tossed away and my wife and I had a nice quiet dinner alone.

Adding a bamboo cooking spoon. I can't carve one, but I can buy one. :) I bought one for myself too. Going to try and personalize it.

Also some kind of UCO spoon fork knife set. Pretty cool, but I like my one piece titanium spork. :)

And a journal. It's important to me to be able to write stuff down. Maybe it is to you too? If not, makes a great place to put recipes! I'll add a pen with it too. I bought a huge box of business pens for my wife, I'll put a couple in with this. :)

More will be added in the coming days too.

It was in my car, I was getting ready to go on a 4 day hike and I packed my car up the night before. When I got up the next morning somebody had stolen the car. The sheriff found it the next week, stripped and empty and burned out.

Went on a quick overnight campout. Nothing like bacon and sausage cooking on a fire to make life good in the morning. :)

Ack! Those pot handles bring back some memories. Many years back the DW and I went on a weekend camping trip. Grabbed a pan set out of the camp box. Hiked in and found a spot to set camp. Got a fire going to get some coals started. Rigged up some branches to hang a pot to boil water and cook with.

Got pan set out. :34: No bails. :17:

At least she liked the bench I rigged.

Late spring. Memorial Day weekend 2011. We hiked back in to Wildcat Hollow here in Ohio. Anya, the dog, had a great time and really loved playing in the nearby stream we had to hike through to get to the camp. Yeah, she was a weird husky. Born and raised in AZ, loved playing water.

There were some bugs but not bad. You can just kind of see the tarp tent I was experimenting with in the back of the last picture. Basically a lean to with a long "box" front, made from a single tarp. Hope that makes sense, hehehe. The one end was open and we had a bug net hanging inside. Wish I had better pictures.

OK I'll be in. I have a couple younguns who could benefit, plus it is high time for me to do a GAW and I may pay it forward. Or because I agree, more pics is good.

    Barbeque pics:

I've done brisket a few times and once or twice it was almost competitive with what I got while working in Texas. Not the good places, I mean from "down on the corner in Austin" places not Franklin's, Snow's, Micklethwaites, Cooper's etc. Those places are in a whole nuther class.

Usually I smoke over apple wood, sometimes cherry. Wish I had some post oak to try.

My kids usually want me to BBQ for their birthday dinner. I figure if I ever took them to a decent place in TX they would know what good BBQ is and stop asking me.

This one turned out pretty moist, not sure if that comes through in the pic. Smoke ring was good too, better than it looks. The lighting was not favorable.

I think this was the only time I foiled the brisket a.k.a. "Texas crutch" (all I had was foil, no pink butcher paper).

Speaking of Texas, @BigDaddyHoss did some awesome campfire cooking out in San Saba, TX.

... which he always does at our semiannual PNW gatherings at Millersylvania. This is from Fall 2016, a particularly wet gathering.

I like solo trips sometimes, or just with my son where we each bring our own gear. I just used this pic elsewhere but here it is again, a summer camp in northern CA, on the property I grew up on.

And here's a closeup of my solo cookset -- Emberlit FireAnt and a Snow Peak 600. Sometimes supplemented with a Trangia burner. This is still my most used kit... not that I've gotten out much the last couple years.

I've only gotten out a few times this summer. One trip, Ashland Lakes in the nearby national forest, I taught the BIL how to find dry cedar. That was needed because everything was drenched (in July!) to the point most established campsites were swamped. We actually had a great time just sitting there, messing with that little FireAnt stove and talking about stuff.

Thanks to @gohammergo and good luck to all who entered or posted pics.

    Peace out!

So, I guess I let this go a bit longer than the two weeks mentioned in my first post. Time just cruises by! :)

Last bump today. Later this evening I will sort through the posts for entries and do the random generator thing.

Hope everyone is having a great day out there in Bushcraft land. :)
