I decided to play along in the 2019 Trip Report Challenge. Yesterday my 13 year old daughter and I went searching for my spot to photograph once each month for the next year. We had so much fun and I rediscovered how wonderful AND terrible an exploration buddy she is...for the same reason.

Let me explain. My daughter is fearless and loves to find places so she is great but she is terrible because she thinks that I should and will follow. Finding the slightly easier path in our swampy jungle does not ever cross her mind.

We entered the woods she and her friends love to explore yesterday looking for the spot and found so many cool things out there. I do not live out in the country so the density of our “jungle” might surprise folks.

My child really doesn’t believe in taking the path of least resistance so THIS is what I had to follow...

I kept telling her I didn’t see any benefits from going a route where I had to bend, crawl and climb at the exact same time. She seems to think that’s part of the fun!

She also takes great pleasure in charging up and down any hills...

    and mud makes everything better!

I convinced her to pause to take a picture with me before she got me stuck in a tree or sunk up to my neck in muck...

We had an awesome time getting muddy and wet...we even videoed some of our fun stuff...

I found many places that might work like...

But I decided that this was the perfect spot to follow the changes during the next year.

I can’t wait to get out with my girl at least once a month this next year. I think these times together are what is real in an artificial world!

That's awesome, so glad to see you getting out and having a good time with family. Nothing brings out the kid in us like swinging on a vine :4:

That is so cool . It was my mom that always took us to the woods and drug Home boats and bunk beds from the dump . I don’t think she’d ever swing on a vine like that . Well she would if she could have maybe .
Way to go Mom I never did have time for no namby pamby girl .

    Very nice!
Given your "scenic route" way of choosing "trails" and moving forward (!), will you be able to find that spot again?!?
I never thought that vines could be strong enough to swing on.... (apart from Tarzan movies of course).
    Great trip!

You should see some of the grape vines in my jung.... er, back yard. The vines in one tree held strongly enough to allow another tree to softly lay on my roof. No damage from a large water oak.

I love that! Thanks, @x39! I will take it! I am so thankful that my daughter is so much like that. She will go it alone rather than choose to follow if nobody agrees with her. Now if I can get her to be a little better at selecting kinder paths when “breaking trail” for her mother I will be even more thrilled! But at least she isn’t afraid of adventure and getting dirty...and her direction was spot on. She was taking us the most direct route as the crow flies...too bad her mother isn’t a crow! ;)
