I've always got my hat, except when I'm riding, then it gets stuffed in my saddlebag and I don my durag. My buddies say why and I tell them it feels like hair , but really it keeps my head from the sunshine the rain the wind the cold the bumps bruises and scrapes and I don't know what I would do without it. It all started with the Pendleton Outback, and then they went Chinese and C'est La Vie I can buy them anywhere cheaper. View attachment 778235

Hats are another of my "things". Here's one of my two trusty Akubras, a Coober Pedy. The other one is a gray-colored Cattleman, and I don't have a pic yet.

    Glenn Bryce 101.jpg

Here's my sole remaining, and all-time favorite, cowboy action shooting hat (except, when I do it, it's INDIAN Action Shooting :p:)):
    CAS Avatar.jpg

Each of my hats has a distinctive hatband. I made the one on the pictured Akubra from -- get this -- a dog leash. I just added the turquoise spots and the concho. The gray Akubra is sporting a custom beaded hatband. It's an Aztec pattern that was made by a Cherokee, and now its being worn by a Choctaw! My black I.A.S. hat is now wearing a blue Anishinabe-patterned hatband made for me by the same Cherokee.

Nice stock filler work on that M1A! I’ve thought about buying an inert selector shaft lock kit to attach to the stock, but... don’t need questions.

I’ve been thinking I need a wide straw hat for lawn work. I’ve been doing my and my in-law’s yards and got cooked last time. Didn’t think about it at all, but crunchy ears reminded me later. 44 years in FL you’d think I’d pay better attention to the sun; not sure why I didn’t think about it in the lawn.

I have a black felt “Indiana Jones” hat I haven’t worn in a while. All hats get in the way of a bowstring.

Stetson all the way, sometimes the wide-brimmed Expedition, and other times the narrower-brimmed Moose River.

I love my Akubra Bushman (which is a lot of hat... children wave, like I am a weiner dog or something)... but sometimes I think I could maybe pull off something taller, something bolder.

I am in the fortunate position of being able to do and dress as I want. I am good at what I do, so I can take liberties with the dress code. But of course there are limits.

Meanwhile, where can I get this hat?

You have the face shape — longer and leaner — to pull that off.

    I don’t.

But good for you! I’m envious. Looks great.

Yep, the real thing. I can’t remember the unit, I will ask him. It is quite an honor to receive those awards.

    Will do. ;)

Never wear a hat, summer, winter, rain, snow. Worked outside my whole life, still do on my farm. I own several, beause I liked the way they look. Just felt uncomfortable when I tried to wear one. Only time regret not wearing one is when I walk into a spider web, also uncomfortable.

My hat wearing is in spurts I guess. Used to wear a ball cap a lot. In the winter I wear a......well,......we call them "chook" around here. Also known as a "toque" I think for the French? A tobaggon out east? Fashion magazines call them a "knit hat". I think you get the picture. @Broke can probably give the correct nomenclature for it. :)

When I was in the fire department years ago I stumbled into the old uniforms, complete with the real old campaign hats. Had mine for years. I didn't wear it much, but is sure was a treasure. Lost it in a house fire.

I have a couple of other wide brims, a nice leather one and a nice wool one. Seldom wore them because they didn't "feel right". Felt awkward to wear. Then, early this summer I was in our local hardware store and walked past a hat display they had. There was this hat that looked like it was made from oil cloth or waxed something? Looked good to me. I put it on, and it felt like it was custom made for me. I wear it most of the time now. I have a hat hanger by the kitchen door, when I come in the hat gets hung, when I leave the hat gets worn. It often feels weird or uncomfortable to not wear it now.

How are you liking this one? I am on the hunt for another wide brimmed hat but want more of a flat brim as opposed to my outback style hat with a brim that curls up at the sides

I've been wearing a "Real Deal" hat for years as my adventuring headwear. These things are made out of truck tarps from Brazil, and they're made by hand by the locals there. Each one is absolutely unique and imperfect, which I think gives them a lot of character.

Few things are better that dunking that hat in cool stream water when backpacking in the middle of nowhere on a hot day.

Real Deal Tarp Hat for me as seen in my avatar.

Occasionally a nice wide brim straw hat or a ball cap.
