This is going to be a repository for my Sunday ramblings.

Quick hike with my helper this afternoon. She wouldnt take a nap, so we hit the woods instead.

I wanted to head back out and take a closer look at the cellar hole I found a few weeks back
    https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/just-a-quick-walk.254998/

Climbed down in this time around. About 6' at its deepest.

Anybody need a shovel? I'll cut you a deal.

    0811191556~2.jpg

Emma kept laughing at me as I shooed away the ever-increasing swarm of mosquitos

    0811191555a~2.jpg

I'm not much for selfies, but these crappy photos are courtesy of my phones' self-facing camera. The rest of the phone smashed, and this is one of the few things that almost works anymore.

I always see people pose knives for glamour shots on rocks and it makes me cringe. So like a moron, I posed my knife on rock, and dinged up the edge. Of course.

A minute or so on a fine arkansas stone back home, and its shaving sharp. Gotta love 1095.

Holy moly, she’s your tiny twin! My daughter was that age just a little while ago. Last week she turned 12. Don’t blink. They grow up way to fast!

What a nice day and neat idea for the Sunday log.

You two should join the Roughians Group. I see an up and coming Young Roughian there. :)

Looks like a great day Matt.

My kids drug me out for a bike ride in the rain today, which I was not very happy about but by the time we reached a section of State Land that we hunt the rain stopped and we had an awesome soggy walk around the hunting loop.

Looking forward to seeing your Sunday ramblings.

Nice man. Looked like a good time. :) I’ve been having to work Sunday through Thursday this summer, so Sundays aren’t quite the same anymore.

    Simple weekend. Not many pictures.

mt greylock with the girls. Hiked back down to the car right before the sky opened up and things got ugly.

Nice outing with the family. A recommendation for the mosquitos is some stuff called DONT BITE ME. it works awesome, smells good and is all natural, which is especially good for the little ones. No worries of chiggers, ticks or flying bugs

Unfortunately, I'm working straight through the weekend.

Crafting on my downtime at work.

Hope to have a pile of sugar maple spoon blanks by the end of shift.

Saturday night fire in the yard, lazing around in the grass, stargazing.

    0907192050a~2.jpg

First hike up to one of my favorite spots with the girls.

The look of a man pretending he's strong enough to carry both daughters up steep grade for the long haul.

    0908191701~2.jpg

I couldn't keep it up the whole way. My legs began to shake like I was standing on an active fault line. Time to hit the gym, maybe.

    Made Ellie climb.

    0908191628~2.jpg

Very large yellow birch on the way up. One of my favorite species of tree when they get really big.

    0908191659~2.jpg

    The top, carrying both again.

    0908191719c~3.jpg

    Home now. Ibuprofen for dinner.

I remember those days of being a mule..

One trip in particular, we hiked a couple of miles in to a river for an overnight. I had bought a nice external frame pack for my young son, but it was a bit big for him. I told him that whatever he packed in, he was going to have to pack out.

He made it in just fine. We had a great time too. The next day he said he was too tired to carry it out. So, I ended up with my pack on my back, his pack on my front, and him in my shoulders. That was quite a load.

You'd think by the time a kid was in his teens I wouldn't have to help him out so much!

    :18::18::18:

Just kidding. He was 6-7 at the time. :)

    that made me laugh.

the last time i carried my 16yo on my shoulders was when he was about 12. not so much because he needed me to, more to see if i could still do it.

My 8 year old cut his foot up leaping from a boulder into a pool in the stream at the bottom of some falls in the Adirondacks a couple of months ago. After a dad first aid patch job he rode my Tarryall back to the trailhead parking lot. Then he ran around in the parking lot.
