I'm wondering if the Half Dandy might be right for me. Does anyone have a Dandy, and do you like it?

IIRC, @Luchtaine gave one of these away a while back. I may be thinking of someone else. The price is a bit steep, but it's got twice the length of a Bahco with fewer moving parts.

I'm interested in hearing about it as well.

I've changed my thinking away from bow saws after trying the Irwin roughcut Marathon saws recommended by Boundary Waters canoists. If the Dandy is like the Irwin but perhaps a little handier it would be nice. If the teeth of the Dandy can be sharpened, that would be even nicer.

They offer the Dandy in larger sizes, which could be nice for some camps.

Two or three years back, I was hot after one. Just never pulled the trigger.
They seem to have a love/hate following. Some folks swear by them. Others not so much.

I like the concept. I liked that they were made here in the U.S.A. Or at least they were then.
The Packsaddle guys seem to love them, as do the hunters.

Personally, I think they have a place. Not super light or whiz bang. But it looks like a solid time tested device.

    Hope that helps ya,
    LV

    P.S.
The folks that build them seem to produce some real world heavy duty industrial equipment. I imagine this saw follows that pattern.

    Some reviews;

Well that is a dandy!! Naw braw I don't have a dandy saw but my braw has a saw similar to that in design and it's stupid nasty fast cutting. I believe his might have a slight curve tho. But I have cut with similar shaped and they get it done!

One of those Corona pruning saws, maybe? That's also on my list of possibilities.

They seem pretty dandy to me!!

    I'll show myself out.

All seriousness, if you're looking for something other than a folding saw you might want to look at the silky Zubat saws. I've had my eyes on one for awhile, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. It's right around the same price as the Dandy above. Good thing about the silky is the handles come off and the full blade can be replaced if you around ever need to.

I had one and really wasn’t impressed with it gave it to a forum member here and bought a Boreal 21 which has turned out to be a fantastic piece of kit.

Was that you who did the giveaway a year or so ago?
Why didn't you like it, if I may ask?

Me that was, primarily too flexible for my liking and the teeth were not aggressive enough either.

Thanks for the input. I was wondering about that shallow tooth profile. It looks like teeth similar to a Bahco, but I got to thinking a longer blade might make those baby teeth more noticeable. It seems to be primarily designed as a bone saw.
