I am looking for a quality hat for general outdoor/bushcraft/hiking use.
Ideally, I would like to get a hat that has some character beyond the floppy nylon hats at REI.
I have used Tilleys and like them as they are one of the few brands I have found that make hats large enough - 7 3/4 or XXL.
Are there other brands you have found to be both sized large enough and have some shape to the brim?
I live at altitude in the SW so need decent sun protection w/o being too hot.

None that I have found. The Tilley seems to hit the sweet spot for being wide enough to protect you yet not so wide that it blows off your head easily.

Yep, that’s it, right there. You can’t beat a Tilley.

Check out Shelta Hats. Almost a baseball brim in front while maintaining a bit of a Tilley look. The front brim is fairly solid to keep from flipping around in the wind.

The best hat I've ever owned is my Tilley LTM6 Airflo.

I've got a Filson summer packer, not the waxed one. Down here, sun protection and coolness are the prime requirements.

I really like my Tilley hats, tried a bunch of other hats before I bought into the Tilley brand.
