Well it's time for my old Tilley hat to go.....

    PA031777.JPG

This was my first Tilley....got it on sale if I remember correctly, 20years ago ??. Been many a miles and day's in the field and and on the water. I like coverage over the ears that a ball cap doesn't get for yea. Had Nylon Tilley for awhile but just didn't warm up to it so I sold it here for please buy me price. But I like Tilley's so when this one got a few holes in it I relegated it to yard duty and bought an new hemp Tilley.

The Hemp Tilley now does woods and water duty. I think the hemp is a little lighter, the crown is not as stiff, well see if it lasts as long.

With spring coming on and doing a little cleaning around the house I noticed how grimy the yard Tilley had gotten, so off to the washing machine it went and this was the result. Unfortunately I'm trying to keep the sun off my crown more and more these days and such ventilation just wouldn't do. Thought about some gorilla tape or some such but maybe it is just time. Gotta find an new yard hat.....got of couple of cotton bucket hats....they might do.....they are not a Tilley though......a lot cheaper.......I'll make due....

And no I'm not going to send it in for a replacement......I think I got my money's worth......:50:

Love having a good hat. I feel for your loss. Hope your new Tilley is not too far off. I bought a wide brim hat off of rei, must be close to 15 years ago now. This one is quick drying, well ventilated and has a dark underbrim fabric that my ageing eyes appreciate.

I have made some hideous repairs that cause much angst from the boss and the boy....I would definitely grab a needle and thread and restore it....form over fashion rules the day.

I've got one ready to send in also. This will be my third time. I get 3 to 4 yrs out of mine. Florida is hard on hats!! The first time I had to send one back I bought another. I couldn't be without a hat. So I always have a new one in rotation.

@SpookyPistolero the lifetime warranty covers all normal wear and tear. :dblthumb:

For what these puppies cost I'd cut the crown off and use it as a full-brim visor for the nasty stuff you don't want to wear the hemp for. Like mowing the lawn.

Assuming you have hair & don't need the crown to protect the noggin. :)

Tilley has earned a good reputation. I would buy another one as well. I mean to eventually get another.

I had a Tilley that I really liked and had it stolen by an employee of a place I stopped at in Arizona. I left it in into restroom and it was turned in to lost and found. I was told when I called about it that they would hold it for me in lost and found until I came back. I described it and gave them my name and number and told them to please hold it for me. It was gone when I got back.

Best hat I ever had. That thing floats too. I took it everywhere.

I have two Tilleys, one for fishing season and (a camo) one for hunting season.

I treat both of them with Kiwi Camp Dry heavy duty water repellent silicone protection.
