Hopefully we won't have any major problems, but Hurricane Isaac has Louisiana, Mississippi and To a lesser extent Alabama in it's sites. Unfortunately some of us may get hammered, good luck everybody in the line of fire!

Is anyone close enough to be catching any of the wind or rain?

Wind is definitely picking up in NOLA, plenty of rain too. Last I heard we're about 4 hours away from peak, then it'll start slowly subsiding. Folks inland need to be ready too - if this thing keeps dumping water flash floods are possible anywhere it tracks.

If the TV wasn't telling me different I'd say it was a beautiful night here in St Francisville.

I guess that will change soon.

That is so funny, The first gusts of wind blew over my wife's rose trellis. Well the world ended as we know it so we bravely went out and tied it back up with some paracord using prusik knots to sinch it up tight! HAHA.
It is blowing pretty good now. Looks like the eye is going to pass right over the house. Guess I will have my work cut out for me tomorrow. The power has only gone off once. We will see.

Eye has stalled about40 miles due south of us. Across the street neighbors roof is toast. Huge piece of tin is wrapped around telephone pole in front yard. I got out and nailed it to the pole to keep it from doing further damage. Blowing pretty good .

I have a niece that lives in Houma. She and her husband are riding it out. Their home is high, on stilts. They have two weeks food and water, a good generator and two boats secured to the house. The car is parked on high ground.
Her husband is a Houma native, and a licensed boat captain. He tells me that they will be fine. :D

We are only getting wind so far. It is not supposed to make it up here until Thursday. This is an extremely slow moving storm that is dropping a lot of rain. It stayed over water so long that it had time to pick up a lot of moisture. Which means LA & AR can expect several inches of rain.

It has been raining steady here since early this morning. The wind is gusting about 35-40mph. I don't know how much rain we've had but we have been receiving inches at a time it seems. We picked up my father-in-law from New Orleans on Monday and brought him to Mississippi. His neighbor stayed and texted us that they lost power sometime today and the wind is gusting 60-70mph. Praying for safety of people in the path of the storm. We are going to be in heavy rain and wind for the next 24-36 hrs.

The edge of the rain band is on us now. We keep getting a couple of minutes of rain and the it stops. Pretty soon it will start and stay with us for a day or so.

Winds been blowing hard all day, been raining a bit. Supposed to hit us around midnight, weather chanel is saying winds of 35-40 mph with gusts of 60. Power is probably gonna be out for a few days at the worst, and sime trees will probably come down, but hoping that will be the extent for us, my kinfolks down by houma have been getting the hell beat out of them all day, they say its bad down there.

i'm south of you, in DeRidder. Raining here now... and blowing, but not too bad... supposed to have a couple inches of rain (we need that, and can handle it easily), and some gusty winds (35mph or so.) Not bad at all. power's already been out and restored (15 minutes. that was good.) hopefully this will be the worst of it.

So far we have lost a few tree limbs and received 4 inches of rain, but not anything like what we thought might occur.

Rain, rain, go away, we don't need no mo for today. At least 20" of rain in Purvis, MS. We have 6 sea gulls on the lake and we are 60 miles north of the Gulf. First time in my 60+ years to see Gulls this far north. I talked to a friend across town who has sea gulls and a pelican. I guess they are fed up with all the Hurricanes too. haha

Finally got power back, been out since Monday. We are fine but a lot of our friends are flooded out and having to be rescued because the roads are impassable. Flooded where it has never flooded before in known history. Luckily everything lost is just material. All that can be rebuilt.

Well we made it. 23 inches of rain (unofficial )and flooding in places i have not seen in a while. Worked 72 hrs straight with no sleep . 2 different water rescues ,and more trees cut since Katrina. Our Levee is trying to break at our local State park so they are going to do a controlled breech to keep it from breaking . Evacuated people down river and they are not happy about it. oh well time for some sleep.

We ended up with 4" of rain and Thursday night the wind broke the top out of a big water oak in my front yard. Otherwise it was no big deal.
