After a very short time off driving the Tacoma I decided it wasn't a good fit.

Picked up the new Rav 4 yesterday . Doesn't have as many off-road features of past vehicles but since forest service roads are pretty much all I travel besides the highway I think it will work out just fine.

My old ‘91 Toyota landcruiser. This pic is at least ten years old now from back when I lived in Australia before immigrating to North America.

    Attention 2nd Gen Tacoma Owners.

If you are experiencing vibration under acceleration and it points to your rear u-joints. You may qualify for a free "warranty enhancement". I took my 2008 Taco in for a recall replacement of my rear leaf springs. While there I said my truck is vibrating when I accelerate. He told me that since I've never had a u-joint repaired that I get a new one installed for free under their "warranty enhancement" program.

I know this is super easy to do it myself, but I'm not gonna turn down free repairs by a Dealership. It beats paying for parts and crawling under the truck any day.

    Everyone have a great day!

That’s exactly why I went with new. All the ones a couple years old with 20-30k miles were only a few thousand dollars cheaper

I bought a 2018. Picked it up in September 2018. Just passed 3300 miles on the ticker. It’s a TRD Off-road AT

Thanks brother. No RTT for me. Bought a 2018 Mercedes motor home last year too for that “roughing it” camping stuff lol.
I’m actually one of the few people that like the stock grill lol. Plus everyone is getting the “pro” grill.

My wife and I sold our 08' last weekend, then picked up this 05' TRD Off-Road. She suggested that we pull an overnighter somewhere that my other truck couldn't get us too. This is one of my favorite motorcycle camping spots up in Talladega Nat'l forest that my old truck could never get into. Only had to use the locker once to make it out.

    05' with a Snugtop and a Bedrug.

Set up under a 10x10 tarp, and an old mil-issue mosquito net. Some of the best sleep we have ever gotten outside of a bedroom. She was still sound asleep.

It's one of the trails off of the Skyway trail. 600-2 I believe. There are 5 or 6 good trails leading off the main path that are exciting to go down. They are slowly being blocked with "No Crawling" signs so enjoy them while they last.

Thanks, That is a beautiful area. Love your camp setup. I live just over the Ga line in Carrollton area and have spent a good bit of time in the area north of Heflin. The road in your "exit" shot looked a lot like one of the roads up there. I am planing on taking my grandson for a little ramblin time next Tuesday around Pine Glen camp ground for some day camping and bushcrafting, then over to the shooting range for a little .22 action and just some Paw Paw time. We love it over there. Thanks again TDP

I realized I hadn’t updated this thread with my truck sense I added this camper. We’re coming up on a year with the AT Summit. Last year we picked it up in Arizona and made it all the way up to Maine. From camping in 90* to 17* it has served us well. The driver window and skylight are both screen, plus all of the tent windows are screened so you can really get a breeze going. It also has a Thinsulate liner that Velcros into the tent that adds several degrees. With the addition of the fridge on the slide and some storage boxes we have pretty much everything we need a long weekend on the trail and some very comfortable camping. The whole thing only weighs about 400lbs. The ol’Taco rolled over on 211k the other day. Later this week I’m taking it in for the whole water pump, timing, etc. package. That’s above my skill level and I trust this shop to find anything else that might need attention.

New Cooper AT3 4S tires on some TrailRunner wheels from a 4Runner. Now I just got to replace the head gasket. Yep, I've got a head gasket leak on my new to me Toyota. Lol

I'm making lemonade though. I'll replace the water pump, crank seal, thermostat, radiator, hoses, ect. while I have it tore down. So it'll give me a couple hundred thousand miles. I'm not quitting on her.

My dad flew gliders at a private strip, old naval base, and the owner said I could drive anywhere I wanted since it was private property. So he turned me loose while he flew. Huge place with woods and all kinds of cool places for a young kid. I drove it for years after I got my license. They sold it for $5k with 380,000 miles on it. Since then I’ve had ...

    ‘92 Honda Accord station wagon
    ‘92 FJ80 LC (totaled with 275k)
Edit: Conpletely forgot my ‘01 Tacoma Extended cab 5 spd. TRD. Loved that truck.
    ‘87 4Runner (sold to buy another FJ80)
    ‘92 FJ80 (sold with only 250k)

Currently ‘93 FZJ80 and an ‘89 Toy Pickup.

The FZJ80 will be going under the knife soon to get an Isuzu 4 litre turbo diesel with the stock auto tranny. And the pickup needs the front control arms replaced so isn’t driving right now. I will dispose of those janky rims ASAP. Hate them.

The truck is likely a restoration but I didn't have time to find out yesterday. There were no computer displays anywhere on the dash...all old school. I'm going back tomorrow to have a cover installed on the bed of my Tacoma so I'll find out more and post more photos. I will say the truck was immaculate inside and out. If Toyota reintroduces this body style they'd sell thousands.

I agree Poppy, great body style. Jeep is bringing back their old similar body style with the 2020 Gladiator; it will be interesting to see how many they sell.

    I'm sticking with my Tacoma.

Looks like an HJ45 or 47. I don’t think they ever did a 4 door from the factory. Looks like one of the Aussie mine specials maybe.

I inquired about the truck again yesterday but oddly enough no one seemed to know much. The service rep thought it was an '80s model and that Toyota didn't sell diesel engines in the US.

My guess is the truck belongs to the owner of the dealership(he owns several in the area) and had it imported for his collection. The speedometer is calibrated for km/h only suggesting outside origin and not for U.S. sale.
