Thank you, I'll head over there and take a look. I've been reading at the expedition portal too.

I guess that one came back to me, haha.

@atlastrekker awesome!!! I'm sure you're going to really like it. The best upgrade I did to mine was the winch on the front. It's gotten me out of a few jambs. Have fun with it brother!

@BigBubbaJ set up a portable HAM radio station that was solar powered and was able to raise contacts as far away as Alabama. Not bad for a 10W radio set and an antenna that he sling-shotted into a tree!

Well.... so I guess in my family inherited doesn't mean the same thing as everyone might think. I THOUGHT it meant that I would be the owner, but what it really meant was that I was to sell it an split the proceeds with everyone in the family. I'm pretty deflated right now, because I really was excited about this vehicle! Oh well, I guess there is always other cars out there.

After the family debacle I actually ended up coming out of the deal pretty good. Here's the toy I ended up with.

2004 Tacoma with the 3.4 V6 and a 5speed. It has the e-locker and new wheels with Goodyear Duratrac tires. I just ordered an ARB front bumper to house the warn winch, too.

    Expedition build coming right up!

Got some new shoes on our Rav4 to handle the mountains - BFG KO2s for mud, snow, and sharp rocks.

Thanks! Can't believe they got rid of the V6, too. This one has 269 horse, about the same as our 4Runner, and it really moves, too.

I've heard and read that they are very good tires, but I would be interested to hear what you think of them after a while @Brew-Jitsu. They do look good on there.

I've been using a set of KO2s on our 4Runner since we purchased it last October, and they have performed beautifully. I drive around other vehicles in snowy traffic as if they aren't moving, and they work very well in mud and dirt, too.

Before I bought either set, I had a chance to go off-roading with @Crazysanman , who also runs KO2s, and you can see many examples of terrain he's conquered in this thread.

Thanks for the input. My "new" truck has Goodyear Duratrac tires on it currently, but when I go up a size I might switch over to BFG tires. The Goodyear tires are awesome in the snow as well, but I think they are quite a bit heavier, which may be good or bad.

King coil overs for the Tacoma. Looking into upper control arms now, so until then they are set at only 1" of lift. Man, they ride good!

    Woooohoooo!

The only bad part is I'm shipping out tomorrow and won't be home to install it for over a month! Boooo!

Oh well, I'm sure it will be a great addition to the taco, and for many years to come.

    oh man.....

I hope it's ok if I vent from work here a little bit....

You guys all understand that Toyotas don't have the kind of markup that some other brands have, I have a fellow who is CONVINCED that he can get a 2017 4runner for $10,000 below MSRP.... because someone on the internet said they got that deal.

    Ugh.
I told him if he actually gets that deal to tell me where so I can go buy 5 of them!

I can't wait to get out of my Corolla and into a 4runner!

Or, you walk on the lot because they have the 6spd and the dealer tries to talk you out of it because it's a manual.
Thn argue that the only reason you're there is for the 6spd.
That was the issue I had, the dealer I went to always keeps at least one in stock.

Two weeks ago my son and I went to Silverton, Colorado and drove the Alpine Loop. The Alpine Loop is a loop made by combining the Engineer Pass trail and Cinnamon Pass trail that go over mountains between Ouray/Silverton and Lake City, Colorado. The loop is about 64 miles in all and every inch of it is beautiful.

Stopped in Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP for a few hours on the way there. Once I heal we will be going back here for some hiking.

That's a trip I am planning on doing in the next couple years. It's very cool that you get to play there. I did get a chance to do some exploring in the black canyon of the Gunnison a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm sure that you will too.

Finally got the diesel Hilux out in town. Been stuck driving 20kph (12.5mph) on base. Got it up to about 45-50ish mph and inadvertently "Rolled Coal" with it downshifting to pass another vehicle. Fun stuff!

I grew up driving automatics - and previously (before coming here) hadn't driven manual since 1997 which was a Deuce and 1/2 in the Army.

Now I find myself wanting own a manual transmission.

I ended having to special order my 6 speed- he (dealer) did a nation wide search and nothing- all I was looking for was white and short box, nothing crazy.

my 12 Tacoma is close to bare bone stock save slightly oversized BFG AT KO's (265/70/17)- 10 ply (E rated) but has gotten me into and out of some spots that none of my previous full size 3/4 tons would ever dare

I am just about ready to pull the trigger on a soft top for parking and camping

It's pretty sad they closed it down. Your rig is very nice.

Are you thinking a canvas camper shell or a roof top tent on a rack?

Prepare for the dreaded throw-out bearing problem common with the 6-speeds. Mine started squealing at less than 25,000 miles. I just ordered an upgrade kit for my FJC.

It seems like that issue with the 6 speed transmission is pretty hit and miss. If you got a bad one you will know pretty quick. If not, they'll go forever. Luck of the draw.

Softtopper brand- quality construction, fit is great, easy install

I plan on using this as a little "base camp" for trail races, long day hikes, hunting, etc

Will throw in a small cot, pad and sleeping bag and be able to get out of the weather

    Yup, XLE AWD.
Surprised how well it works. We took it out in soft sand with no problems. Didn't even drop air pressure. Now excited to see how it does in the snow.

That's awesome, we don't see too many of the AWD Rav4s down here, other than the Hybrids. Glad to know it's been working for you!
