TOPS Knives Tom Brown Tracker (T-1)

Some questions for Tracker fans and knowledgeable knife folks...

    1. Any thoughts on this particular model?

    2. Worth the price (179.99)?

I'd like to try it out but I have very little knowledge when it comes to knifery. Opinions sought good or bad, thanks!

Look at the tracker action thread in edged tools. And you can find them cheaper. Stay away from the regrinds you never know what they really did to them.

Can you explain to me what you mean by "regrinds" amd why this particular knife would be one of them? Thanks!

Regrind is where some one grinds it to change the angles. And i dont know about massdrop they look new might be a chinese repro. You can find them barely used on the trade blanket for 100 to 120.

This particular drop is from TOPS, and advertised as made in the USA. From the drop:

"You may know it from The Hunted. You may know it from the cover of Blade Magazine. Or you may know it as a be-all, end-all survival tool. Whatever the case, the Tom Brown Tracker is a one-of-a-kind tool that can take a serious beating. Clocking in at 21 ounces, it’s heavy enough for chopping, batoning, and hammering—the blade is even wide enough for digging. The 6.4-inch blade is made from 1095 steel with black traction coating. The main edge can be used for slicing and chopping, while the secondary edge is good for shaving material and carving. The spine has a toothed back for notching and sawing, too. Composed of linen micarta, the handle offers a secure grip in slippery conditions. Also included is a Kydex sheath for convenient carry."

Do you think the Massdrop price is a good price for this knife? (179.99)

Check Knifeworks.com/Knifecenter.com/BladeHQ.com for the average price on a new TB1

I checked. Average price between those sites was about $210. The MD price would save me $20 over the lowest of those three at 199. Plus I have a $25 credit that will be applied to my next MD purchase.

Here's my suggestion; take it with a grain of salt:
Upgrade your bcusa membership to "supporter", which will allow you to post ads in the Trade Blanket. Post a WTB (want to buy) ad for a lightly used TBT1.
My bet is that you'll break even, or darn close to even, with the massdrop price, and in the unlikely event that you decide the tracker platform isn't your thing you can then post it for sale on the Blanket.
Plus it helps support this great online community, so win-win.

As Ptpalpha suggested, I recently bought a used in very good condition TB1 from a member here for $125. A very good deal and again it was in very good condition.

wrong. why would you mention anything about regrind? it's never indicated anywhere except in your post...

Massdrop negotiates direct with manufacturer or distributor, probably TOPS in this case...

Thanks for the info guys. Ultimately I never pulled the trigger on the Massdrop purchase. I'll keep an eye on the blanket as suggested.

Good call, I picked up my TBT-1 and TBT-4 here in the blanket for around $100 each.

it's back up. this is the Coyote Tan version T-1. at $179 that looks like the best price for a new one I can find.

only thing with Massdrop is you have to wait till the drop is over and the manufacturer ships the knives to Massdrop who then ships them to you. if you're patient you can save a buck or two...
