I like storebought trail mix just fine, but sometimes it seems quite plain. At most larger groceries there are lots of ingredients to make your own, some have bulk that you can buy by the pound for pretty reasonable prices. Or you can buy a base mix and do your own.

Ingredients can be any classic type mix, cereal mix, nut and seeds, berries, certain types of chips, dehydrated vegetables, etc.

I was hoping maybe you guys have some favorite combinations that you could share or maybe see here and be inspired to try something different.

I recently bought some pretzels and dehydrated banana chips. When you mix them it tastes exactly like banana bread.

I do like trail mixes without fruit because I dont like the sickness, but some are less prone to making a mess.

I make my own too but it varies by mood. One thing I almost always add is Cran-Rasins or dehydrated cranberries. I like those better than regular raisins and they're not as sticky. Not too big on banana chips etc.

One of my favorite things to add are coconut chips. Dried fruit is great, but I feel some of it (dehydrated pineapple comes to mind) just tastes way too sweet and sugary.

Wasabi is good, but I dont like it in much, and not a lot.

I like mixes with nuts, specifically walnuts, but not nut mixes.

Chex mixes are good but I cant stop until its gone. :(

    It depends .

Usually I go with Almonds and raisins and prunes.

I keep them seperate. Almonds for general eating. Fruit if my blood sugar is dropping .

Yes! On the coconut chips!! @dirt7

Almonds .Coconut chips and Cacoa nibs or beans!!

Eta .Just remembered. Sometimes I'll bring nuts in the shell . Sit and relax. Cracking nuts. Watchin for squirrels that are cracking nuts.

"Oooohhhhmmmm. Be one with the squirrel. Ohhhhhhhhmmmmm"

I eat my own trail mix nearly every day as part of my lunch. We called it nutty-gritty when I was a kid.

When possible I try to buy the unsalted version of everything. Aldi's seems to have a good selection of ingredients.

My mix is pretty boring, I guess, but I like it.
    1 can peanuts
    1 bag sunflower seeds
    1 bag rosted almonds
    1 bag cashews
    1 bag craisins (dried cranberries)
    2 bags dried apricots

I pure hate the following in my nutty-gritty: dried pineapple, chocolate, and coconut.

Acceptable additions: dried cherries (but a little too gooey, they make the rest go stale,) and banana chips.

The tropical dried fruits are usually too sweet for me too, but banana chips are nice. I love trail mix, especially if you have some chocolate or peanut butter chips thrown in! Walnuts and date pieces are good as well, filling and tasty, but I mostly use peanuts, raisins, and what ever other non-meltable solids trip my trigger. I'll have to try the pretzel/banana chip thing!

We are keto in my family, so no sugars or grains. We have long been advocates of whole foods, so we have made trail mixes for quite some time.

Currently mixed unsalted nuts, or I like a 50/50 blend of salted and un-salted, some cacao nibs, and plain coconut flakes does nicely for us.

At 10, nearly 11, Jake goes into energy slumps quickly (because he move at full tilt until he can't any longer) but a 10 minute sit down, some water, and a few handful of trial mix gets him back on his feet in fine fashion.

Guys, guys... you're naming everything I like, but forgetting one of my favorite additions...
    M&M's!!! :59:

A little chocolate really makes those other ingredients pop.

Man you are really making me wish I hadn't quit eating carbs about 45 days ago I could go for about a lb of trail mix rite now.
I like almonds, cashews, walnuts, m&ms, cranberries, cherries, and the little dehadrated crunchy bread things.

I didn't do no carb, I went slow carb, with a cheat day. It's called the 24 hour body, and it doesn't give you the keto flu or energy slumps, but still burns the fat for me, and keeps it off.

Which means today I can have the M&M version of trail mix!
