Not much changing of late,,, a rabbit or two every day, and soon I’ll have as many as I need in the freezer.

Fascinating stuff. Trapping seems like the way to go if you're trying to get a good return on investment of time. Sounds like the loop would be something like

identify game trail -> make trap on game trail -> check traps -> identify new game trails -> repeat?

does bait ever play a factor or are you pretty much just trying to catch em as they move through an area

I’m not much on using bait,,, haven’t been for more than 30 years. I prefer to catch the animals “blind”,,, Blinds sets, with traps or snares, simply require putting the trap or snare where the animal won’t find it, but will be caught by it..; if that makes sense?

Would it be accurate to say that placing these traps on discovered game trails (footprints, droppings, disrupted vegetation) is absolutely critical? AKA, if placing a trap without some kind of evidence, a waste of time?

Seeing “sign” when placing a trap is not always critical,,, a mink trapper can place a 1/2 coil spring trap, with a silver dollar sized pan, in such a way the a buck mink will be along maybe two weeks later, and place its .25¢ sized paw dead center of the pan,,, and this with no mink tracks or sign visible,,, It’s a thing that must be learned,,, it’s not complicated, but there are rules to the game. Animal behavior, knowing how an animal will move, plays a large role.

Was suprised to catch the fox, he had been snooping around my chicken pen to much. Not allowed to use leg holds in the county that I got the raccoon in. I don't do a lot of trapping just here and there.

Herself came along today for a fire and lunch,,, I told her that if she were well behaved, she could carry a pack and a rabbit.
