They would be stupid not to look into it... even if doesn’t end up being a alien it would be worse if a country bypassed our war capabilities... either way the most valuable thing to a military is good information.

I'm sure we are not ready to globally defend our world. If our new overlords make any effort to get here it's going to be easy for them to plunder this world.

I think the fact that only tens of millions of dollars are being spent on this is telling. I have no expertise in this area whatsoever, but it seems to me that if there was really a concern that superior technology existed, they would be throwing billions into figuring this out.

If there are advanced crafts flying around in ways that seem to defy physics, military technology seems a more likely explanation than extraterrestrial visitation. Our massive defense budget means that we're likely to be the furthest ahead and any huge advancements would be kept classified for as long as possible.

If enough military personnel are seeing and reporting things that they don't understand, this might just be a way of appeasing the questions without coming out and saying that they're seeing technology that's above their pay grade. You don't want to spend too much money "investigating" your own secret programs. $20 million sounds like a lot of money; but for perspective, each Tomahawk missile costs almost two million dollars.

This leads me to think that they are either completely unconcerned, or already know exactly what people are seeing.

I think we almost certainly have aircraft that would blow people's minds if made public. This is what we were up to 50 years ago.

Very well put it in perspective when you see a SR-71 and state that technology is 50+ years old.

i completely agree. stealth technology was around for decades before being released for public knowledge. if we have had that kind of technology years ago what do you think they have now they aren't telling us? do you really think technology isn't there to completely eliminate the traditional combustion engine in the automobile? i'm willing to bet it's there and won't be released because it would cost too many jobs, read oil industry here. i firmly believe that science fiction of today will be reality in the future, when in the future i don't know but it will be. 114 years ago man took to flying airplanes... in those 114 years aviation has broken the sound barrier which was once thought impossible, we can launch crafts into outer space and live in outer space, we have gone to the moon.... heck even the automobile was once thought impossible all which were science fiction of the past are now reality today....

as to life in the universe i'll quote one of my all time favorite lines from a movie. "I'll tell you one thing about the universe, though. The universe is a pretty big place. It's bigger than anything anyone has ever dreamed of before. So if it's just us... seems like an awful waste of space. Right?"

just remember folks, the pictures that we are seeing today from the hubble telescope are pictures of the past not of present day. we are getting those images from hundreds of thousands of light years away, light can only move so fast.....

I think they keep a lot from the public. I took some premed courses in the 70's so I had some access to info. that the public didn't ever get to see. They will do a study and skew the results to a point more favorable for them. They being the gov. I really don't discount anything, but I think there are some things too difficult for me to comprehend. As far as aliens I'm not saying there aren't any, but I don't think I've met one. joe

I'm going to play devils advocate. If you had the tech to travel space, vast distances. Assuming you picked up signals to find us (only plausible way they could, short of Dr who's army of genocidal dalix) and you came all that way for reasons unknown to us. You find a planet of nearly evolved apes. With a propensity for senseless violence on a massive and world ending scale. I'd set new course and engage! Don't tell me resources. The galaxy (a tiny portion of the know universe) is massive. Our system has tons of water without having to fight for it. Don't tell me either that the human digestive system from the bottom up is all that interesting either. Certainly not worth traveling space and time for a sneak peak! (all we've learned after all this time! Is one in ten really dont seem to mind! Quote: kids in the hall episode) If you still decided to come here. With all that tech. Would you give yourself away with a sub orbital flight. A few close up snaps of the highlights maybe? No if anything at worst it's super secret man made. I trust real humans to be more fallible than fictional aliens!

There is a lot of basic science we really don’t understand exacly. Sure we can guess at the relationship of time space and gravity but when we don’t understand something we add a dimension to explain some phenomena. Is it ET. Maybe. A cosmic string or something we can’t imagine? Maybe. We just don’t know but it’s the height of arrogance to assume we do and call it a Russian spy plane.

It’s also pretty arrogant to assume that ET would be interested in us or our planet. Does it ever seem to you like earth is a zoo? Maybe it is.

I mean say you can fold space with energy. You can also do a great deal of things. Overcome death, not just terraform but planet form. Build giant space tugs that jockey stars around. Convert matter into energy and energy back to matter. The sky’s the limit once you harness fusion and begin deconstructing and reconstructing things at the atomic level.

But there are always jerks. Somebody has to Buck the system so why can’t some jerk in the intergalactic equivalent of a Honda Civic tear thru our atmosphere the way we use a stick to stir an ant mound.

Normally I'd agree with the sentiment. But string or cosmic theory are theory. Russian, american research is a proven fact. whether we know what there up to or not. Id sooner believe in humans screwing up and spilling the beans than Sheldon Coopers theory on the possibilities. You could say it's the height of arrogance that we could percieve such cosmic phenomena with naked sense highly tuned to such a hyper specialized environment as earth.

LOL, you have been playing too much Fallout.
It isn't unreasonable to assume that there could be other life in the vast expanse of the universe.
A couple of wingwipers that caught something weird on their cams does not prove or disprove anything.

Don't play videogames (have to take your word on that). Not unreasonable at all. The average teenager with car keys possesses a hundreds time the power his contemporaries did 500-1000 years previous! It's reasonable to assume the method of history will continue unchecked without intervention from a third party source. In order to reach that level of tech you simply can't remain as irrational as us and expect to survive. You mention buying stocks. If the stock in question was shares in Human.inc. I'd tell you to keep walking! It's a pyramid scheme. To be honest your money is better invested in a company specializing on zombie apocalypse gear. It's a more robust market! Human.inc futures are just to dodgy for my money!

Or is the disclosed money amount only to make you 'think' they aren't looking to hard, because tbere really are aliens?
I mean, trust me, I'm a huge sceptic, Aliens, Ghosts, Medical Breakthroughs, etc, etc. But I don't doubt the possability. Honestly if our universe is as big as they say (skeptical) then I hope to God there is other life out there and they are more advanced than us.

Just thinking out loud here. :)

Not quite sure how my name came up on this one.....

Maybe because Apple Juice has been known to cause people to see strange things in the sky.......

Or because Apple Juice was tested by NASA as a potential rocket fuel for space travel.......

Or maybe the fact that my origins have been questioned in the past....

Maybe the fact that I run on outdated technology.....

I do think that considering this was the " Brain child of Harry Reid" is very telling......
I'll leave this to your own interpretation.......

I think it would be pretty arrogant of us to think we are the only sentient beings in the universe just because they haven't landed on the white house lawn and said "howdy" doesn't mean that something isn't out there. That being said I still want to see proof

If aliens have the capability to travel vast distances through space, far above our abilities, wouldn't their stealth capabilities also be much more advanced?

Simple gray man theory tells us not to stick out. Wouldn't aliens have smaller ships that look like a 747 if they didn't have true cloaking capabilities?

The our "future time traveler" theory has always has been a mathematical issue for me. You have to account for space travel in addition to just time, to go back in time, since our Solar System is always moving through space (Big Bang - expansion) besides just orbiting the Sun. Going back in time means also having to traveling to where Earth is "currently" located. Provided you don't time jump into the core of the planet on a slight miss calculation. ;)

Look I don’t discount life in the universe.... the reason you won’t see a ufo on the White House lawn is simple... time. We all assume you can just go faster or somehow break the confines of time... but if there is indeed some sort of limit... be it what the body can only take or a true cosmic speed limit coupled with the inability to break time... that intergalactic fleet of starships to wipe out the human pest problem could very well be on its way... might take another couple hundred thousand years to get here or even longer. Hell we may be undetected by the sheer fact our signals haven’t reached them yet....

Are there other life forms in this universe? A resounding absolutely yes, it's completely illogical to think otherwise with how utterly massive (and continuing to expand) our universe is. And that's why we will NEVER see other life forms face to face.

Universal Speed Limit (light) + insanely massive distance = we will find glimpses/artifacts of other ANCIENT civilizations when we finally are able to achieve efficient space travel, but they will be looooooooooong dead before we get there.

If Hubble was to snap a photo of a space craft tomorrow, that picture came from X^xx power millennia ago.

Does anybody remember the "cargo cult" people of Melanesia?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult
These were people on some remote islands in the south Pacific who had brief contact with military forces who were moving thru their area during WW2. Soon these outsiders were gone, but they left behind all kinds of trash and junk. The local people were in awe of these visitors, and the junk they left became prized possessions. They occasionally saw an airplane flying high above, and started making fake airplanes out of wood and such, trying to lure an airplane back, hopefully to give them more stuff. Those people probably have smart phones and are all on Facebook now.
I think we, and that includes our scientists, are at the level of these primitive island dwellers in our understanding of what's going on in the universe. There are laws of physics we don't understand. We see things happening, and try to apply our knowledge and our mathematics to them, trying to understand them, but we are missing some of the pieces. What is gravity? We know it's a "force", and we know how to use it in our mathematical calculations. But what is it? What makes it? What is behind the energy that makes light, magnetism, and gravity? What is life? Religions have tried to explain it, and scientists have tried to mix up various chemicals and create it, but so far no luck. Is there life elsewhere in the universe? If so, can some of it be so far advanced technically that they can visit our little world? If so, why would they visit us? So far there doesn't seem to be much evidence that they come to visit "us", just our planet. Maybe there's something here they need, like a quick gulp of oxygen or some other element that is plentiful here, but rare elsewhere. Then they move on. They don't seem to be too interested in us. Maybe we're just a dangerous kind of wildlife that lives here that they need to avoid. Who knows? But I sure don't believe it can all be explained by our primitive understanding of the physics of the universe.

Some very high level gov officials, military officers and astronauts have made some provocative statements, hard to ignore.

In 1986 I had the chance to see one at a former AFB in Sacramento. The plane was roped off and the closest you could get to it was ~50 feet. There were also plates bolted over the windows and armed AF guards nearby. OTOH, there were a couple B-52s you could climb up into. That was pretty cool. If you have deeper interest in the SR-71 or any that Kelly Johnson and Lockheed developed, this book is well worth the time. But the SR-71 still boggles my mind. It's original development as the YF-12 was to intercept incoming nuclear bombers as well as drop nukes -
