Just got done watching Coalcracker Bushcraft's latest video. He mentioned an upcoming bushcraft gathering/festival called the Uitwaaien Bushcraft Gathering. It won't be until September 20th-23rd of September 2018. Looks pretty interesting and definitely easy to get too. Just outside of Bald Eagle State Park in Howard, PA.

I was able to purchase mine early because I attended last years gathering. I don't remember the cost , but I will ask the host what the cost is.

I disagree. That price is more than fair for what you get.

Camping is an extra $25 and that is for the whole weekend and most of the classes as well.

Thanks for posting. Checking it out now. What was your favorite part/experience/class last year? Other than all of it, that is.

I am going to assume that there is no "one day pass" available. It looks like an all or none event. Am I correct with this assumption? My friend and I wanted to spend the day this year then make plans(vacation schedule) for next years outing.

I haven't really been paying attention. Let me email the promoter and find out for you. I have a question for him anyway.

Well that's a bummer. I wonder how much they lose out not offering such.

I don't think any to be honest. As far as I know, the weekend is either sold out or awfully close to being so with folks that are staying for the whole thing. I know that was something that was an issue with the day passes. This event has really exceeded expectations as far as turnout goes. There's a fine line between allowing in as many folks as would be interested vs. limiting the number so as not to have the numbers so high as to make the event so crowded that it detracts from the programs. I actually give the promoter a great deal of credit for taking the route that has been taken, instead of trying to milk every penny out of the experience for short-term profit. I always limit my class sizes of my own programs for the same reason. There is a point where the group just gets too large for what is being demonstrated.

As it is, from what I know of the current schedule, I'm going to be running my tail off for two days in order to offer the more popular programs enough that folks get an opportunity to attend the better attended programs. Which is great! I am so looking forward to this again this year. I just hope the temps aren't in the 90s again.

I was wondering the same thing. Some people didn't see the announcement till it was too late to request vacation time. Its a shame . Hopefully I can be more vigilant and stay abreast of events in tile to request vacation time next year if there will be one. Anyway, Thank you Sandcut for looking into that for us.

No problemo! Keep an eye out. He should post next year's dates within about a week of this one being over just so people can bookmark it.

Sandcut, I take it your an instructor at Uitwaaien? I'm new to BCUSA so I don't know who's who here. I will be attending and would like to meet as many "local" guys as possible!

Yep! I'll be teaching a bunch of stuff this year. Cordage and rope making. Basic knots. Basic plant ID and edible/medicinal plant walks. A lecture on tick-borne diseases and a program for kids.

Hopefully you can make it to one of the programs. I'll be set up right about in the middle of the instructor tents next to Coal Cracker Bushcraft. You can't miss Dan's really big tent thing.

Cool, I'll look for you there! I met Dan at the Outdoor show in Harrisburg last year...great guy, but don't tell him I said that! The cordage and rope majmak as well as the edible / medicinal plant walks are the ones I'll probably hit. I'll have to make sure to bring my plant ID book along to make notes.

It was nice meeting you as well, @Outdoor Dauber . We had beautiful weather and a great bunch of people.

The problem with teaching is that you never get a chance to take many photos. Here's a few that I did get from cordage making class and the rope making class.

Here's @piney and his wife making reverse wrap cordage from basswood bark.
