I have a steel canteen cup without a lid . I don't know if the originals have NSN numbers or not . But I do know not all lids fit all cups . I've been using foil but would really like a lid . Any way to tell which lid might work ? It has the butterfly handles .

There is a thread on making your own lid too.

sounds like a usgi...lol. picture? If it is a usgi then the lid from canteenshop.com lid will work.

The usgi canteens are stamped between the handles.

Top of the lid. I'm not sure if they still sale this particular lid, but you can google heavy cover stainless steel canteen lids and probably find it. Their currently lids probably work too.

    Bottom side of lid.

Lid on canteen. Not a perfect fit, but it works great.

    Hope this helps.

@OMRebel this was very helpful . I found the markings you have pictured between the butterfly handles "US87" thank you . Now I can look into getting a proper lid .

I wasn't sure when I posted earlier because it was in my truck, but the Pathfinder canteen lid works too. Neither are perfect fits but both work about as good as if they did. Selfrelianceoutfitters.com has them for $5.99. Canteenshop.com has the as well.
