I can probably come out Friday to Saturday, but have a charity event to attend Saturday night (wife's a volunteer... you guys saw the little dude I carved for it.)

I had to back out of the HC Roundezvous due to surgery the day after its over and need that weekend to tidy up things. I guess that's why I'm hittin' hard now. What part of Mississippi did you say you were from?

@Forestree what's a good option closer to Alexandria, we may be able to entice @rcwells to come out (I imagine it would be about a 5 hour drive his way to Leesville). You ever done anything in Catahoula district?

Whoa, yeah, probably won't be able to make 5hr trip right now.
If not for the Rendezvous I would try to make it.
Maybe the next one. Y'all don't make special plans around me. I would love to get up with y'all at some point though.

    Thanks for the consideration guys.

I'm not real familiar with any of the other districts (as far as good dispersed camp spots outside of the regular listed campgrounds). That would still be a 4 hr drive for @rcwells so not sure if that's still too far?

    I really appreciate the consideration.
I just have too much going on right now to do that kind of distance.
I'll keep watching for the next one though.

Just to pitch another option, we could do a camp at my place if y'all wanted. I'm pretty much good for wherever though

Sorry to hear that @rcwells, we'll see you on the next one!

Right now, Interest is with me, @Forestree , and @Micah possible @Seeker for a partial visit. I'll likely bring Sam and Kyle. So the options are now a hike (Azelea Trail, etc), canoe (Coon Point?), Glamping (???), or a friendly neighbor forum member with an awesome camp (not mentioning any names).

    What are ya'lls interest?

lol, I was thinking that as an option as I posted above. To be honest, that might be the safest option with all the huntin' going on.

All sound like great options to me! For a backpacking trip, I'd also recommend Kisatchie Hills Wilderness (though I'm kind of biased there haha)

Yeah. My guy this morning was just cruisin' along, tarsels just starting to get stinky... another little bit and the rut (and hunters) could be full on. I'd LOVE to get a trip with all of us back where Forestree and I went one time, off the High Ridge Trail... or 'my spot' up on that one hilltop... but that probably ought to wait til after November.

Ok. So at least one firm vote for Forestree's place.

Since Seeker will be on a tight schedule Saturday, I think Forestree's place will be most convenient. Maybe we could do Kisatchie Hills hike sometime early next year?

    Anyone else peeking in?

Jason kill anything? It was a great morning for it, weather and solunar-wise. I forgot to mention in my hunt thread that I killed dude at 8:20am, an hour into the day's secondary solunar cycle.

That works for me, I'll be off Friday thru Sunday, so y'all can come out whenever you want. Can camp on Thursday night as well if anyone wants to

No he didn't get one but I heard a bunch of shots around this morning. Folks were lined up with deer at the check station on red dirt today

Also just want any folks that don't know, the camp is right at 3/8 mile easy trail walk from truck to the camp at the creek. If anyone has an atv then you can use that too.....my atv is still down so I won't be able to provide gear shuttle service this time, so pack accordingly :D Unless any of the other guys want to bring one out :51:

As usual I am a definite maybe. If the phone stays quiet, I'll be there... Not worth the cost of an out of state license to hunt unfortunately.

Not usually too much hunting. Most of us sit around the fire drinking coffee and eating bacon...

Yeah. Most of the hunting is wandering over to a piece of state land connected to Tommy's and squirrel hunting... you can just walk anyway, for free. Hunting license just makes it legal to walk with a .22 rifle or shotgun!

And there is often much bowdrill practice with John around...

I need friction fire schooling, so that will be a plus. I have made smoke, but not an ember....
Walking without purpose? Oh heavens no, that would be in violate of my 'laziest man on the planet' status! Course if there is no video.......

@Seeker Well I found where one of those shots hit near the house this weekend. Found this right by the property line....probably 45 lb yearling. Didn't even stink yet but the flies were working it over....what a waste

Yeah, talking with some other guys, we came up with several different scenarios but who knows what really happened. I try to maintain a presence out there during the beginning of deer season and over the years have run into some folks that exhibited strange behavior and left me scratching my head as to what was going on or were flat out doing wrong. Anyway, it's done and hopefully there was a good reason and/or they won't be back again.

Not sure guys I just got home this morning from an unsuccessful elk hunt in New Mexico, that's a whole other story for later. I'll have to play it by ear and be a last minute in or out.

And we already had plans to cook that side of elk you were gonna bring back. Hopefully it was a good time regardless and can't wait to hear some stories. You should plan on making it for the campout.....meals are just about all planned so you can sit back this time ;)

Less than a week away and the weather is looking nice! Looking like about a half dozen bushwhackers at this point planning to show up, will be a great time and can't wait!

It's in the community of Kisatchie, LA 71468. Right close to the intersection of State hwy 117 and state hwy 118. If you google it, make sure to use the zip code behind it....otherwise it'll give some random directions to some other place on the national forest. It's about 20 miles north of Leesville, LA, 20 miles east of Florien, LA, and about 20 miles south of Provencal, LA. Hope you can make it out this time!

I'm still trying to work things out so I can make it, I really want to meet you folks. I usually don't camp before the first frost due to ticks and redbugs, never used permethrin or even heard of it before joining this board. Would I be nuts to show up unprepared for those critters?

You'll be fine....the trail is mowed and more of a road than a trail and the camp is all pretty open woods. So not really bushwhacking in thick brush or anything (where most of those suckers reside) unless you decided to go hunting or exploring. Haven't had any issues with redbugs in quite a while though there are ticks out all the time. Just bring your favorite choice of bug spray and you'll be good to go. Will typically have a thermacell or two going in camp as well as a fire going the whole time to ward off the skeeters. Not sure how the other guys are planning to sleep, but I typically sleep in a tent so no worries about ticks, skeeters, or chiggers while I'm sleeping. Hope you plan to make it out!
