I’m sure there are many people around here with well over 15 SAKs.

I’ve got a few that need replacement tweezers and such. It costs about $15 for about 6 ea toothpicks and tweezers normally. This has everything and then some.

I just actually looked at the kit. It’s got 40 ea small and large toothpicks. Lol.

I may pull the trigger on this one....when 3 mini screwdrivers alone are $6 and change. Here you get 10 of those alone! Wonder how long the pen ink cartridges would last/survive in storage as I wouldn't use them for a loooong time probably as I don't have a knife with pen....Unless I bundle.....hahaha.

Hehe. Time to buy another SAK?

I can't imagine they'd last forever, but I've got pens that still work after at least ten years. Store them inside and they'll last longer than the garage. Or give them away, slip a couple in an envelope.

    I bought one, too.

It's hard to beat at that price.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know they made such a thing. I also didn't know I needed one...or two.

Wait, what? You don't own a SAK? I can't imagine that but I can help you with that so go ahead and order the kit! :)

I have had one on me for over 40 years and you cannot beat it. So many choices with different tool sets. It is one of the best pocket knives ever!

I have a Vic with a pen that's almost 20 years old, and the pen still works! I don't know what kind of ink they use, but it lasts a LONG time! This is a great deal!

Good news. Sounds like a good addition to a PSK even if you don't have a SAK or Swiss Card with one.

Has anyone received this yet? Or heard about when they might ship? Or had any issues with an unusual transaction?

Reason I ask is that yesterday i went to use my debit card and it was locked down. I called to see what was up and they said that a company made an "inquiry" about my account that was suspicious. First time this has ever happened to me. No idea if this is connected or not, but it is also the first time that I have ever back ordered something from Amazon. I don't know if the companies bill directly, or if Amazon bills and then pays the supplier?

Probably unrelated. They are being sold by Amazon Services. Even if it's a third party the payment goes through Amazon. I'm much more wary of gas stations, restaurants and small stores when it comes to CC fraud.

FWIW, usually if I backorder something on Amazon that's got a 1-3 month wait, it usually ships in a couple weeks. I ordered 3-4 of the Cold Steel shovels at super low price one time because they said 1-3 month backorder. I think I had them within two weeks. It's been the same with one or two other orders.

They don't bill until it ships. The activity you describe appears to be unrelated.

I just received a notification from Amazon that my spares kit is estimated to arrive between April 22 and May 21. That's fine by me. I don't need any of the parts at the moment, and like others, simply got it because it was too good to not snag one!

    Patience, grasshopper.... :)

Just read through the info and it says made in Switzerland. I never read far enough to see if it is actually made by victorinox though.

It's a pretty good deal for sure. Not sure though how they can sell at that price, and I guess honestly I wouldn't be totally surprised if they aren't quite what they are supposed to be. Time will tell though. :)

Victorinox makes all their parts in Switzerland, which is well above the standard required for "Made in Switzerland" markings. I believe it's safe to assume the spare parts have the same source as the original parts.

But, the pens I don't know. Pressurized pen refills are kind of a specialized manufacture and I'd expect it likely they'd outsource them to an established manufacturer than build all that capability in-house just for that one component.

Same for the LED lights (which aren't part of this kit), I assume they source the emitters, etc from a 3rd party.

That's why I didn't respond earlier; a good chunk of that is a guess, though an educated one.

I was thinking about that the other day, this deal along with the similar recent one on the Swisschamp. I even typed up my thoughts for either this thread or the other but then my hand slipped and I accidentally erased over half of what I'd written and gave up.

But in a nutshell, my guess is that Victorinox authorized amazon to sell a certain quantity of these out-of-stock items at a price much lower than normally allowed in order to create an order backlog large enough to trigger a replenishment order, of which the minimum quantity is likely more than the quantity they authorized to discount, i.e. discount a quantity of 150 in order to trigger a replenishment order for 500 (made up numbers).

It's kind of a win-win-win - Victorinox gets a replenishment order placed, which, even after the discounted quantity, will bring in revenue; amazon gets to restock an item without having to carry more inventory than they want to; some number of us get a killer deal on the product.

Again, just a guess. I could elaborate a lot more but no need to if the above makes enough sense.

    Interesting info.

I guess that explains the super low prices on certain back order items on amazon. Kind of like “topping up” a minimum number required to make an order worthwhile.
