Here is a neat little collapsible shovel marketed to campers that dates around 1916 made by the Ideal Mfg. Co. Nickel plated steel with locking rings The mark reads “Ideal Auto Shovel Ideal Mfg Co North Kansas City Mo. Patent Allowed. All my searches only revealed the Tourist Shovel name so I am not certain if this particular example may perhaps be an earlier one or if they were all marked Auto Shovel. I was not able to find the patent information. It appears to have been inspired by the M1910 T handle shovel and is about the same size. It fits nicely into the leather case I made for the M1910: Some advertising from 1916-1918. Most all the advertising I could find dates in this range.
