I am taking my freshman daughter to move in on Thursday. Go Hawks!
My weekend is Thursday - Friday, but I did manage to get a couple hours swimming in at a local river. It's a very popular spot.
Worked some today. Action Pistol match in the morning followed by who knows what in the afternoon. If it's nice I'll either go for a motorcycle ride or a hike. If not I'll probably putter around in the shop.
My parents live on a dead end street. There are only three other houses past theirs. There were two Box Elder trees across the road that were leaning at a precarious angle over the road. They hung down so much the garbage trucks would have to go to the far side of the road and still brushed the hanging branches. Even in my Dodge 1500 if I stay on the "proper" side of the road branches would brush the top of my truck. So, I busted out the chainsaw and cut them down, limbed them up and hauled them away. I wanted to get it done before the snow came and weighed them down. I don't think they would have lasted another winter. There are two more that I am going to keep my eye on this winter. They may have to go next spring as well. For now the road is safe to pass and there is no threat of a tree falling across the road and blocking traffic.
Need the clip....naarff.
Today I went to see how much flow was coming out of a lock that fills a canal we always fish. It's the rainy season here and they have the water RAGING!! That's good news for down stream where we fish. The big cats like the deep holes and fast moving water.
Sunday I'm going to go to Lake Arbuckle and catch a few small bream to use for cut bait for our usual Wednesday fishing.
Left for work Friday 4 pm , got home today at 8 am , mowed the lawn improvising like a bushcraft forum member would at dusk today .
Drinking some beers now and screwing up my sleep pattern,
Headed back in at 4 pm tomorrow,
Taking my 19 and 21 old to university next weekend driving thru the beautiful hills of central pa day dreaming of being in the woods and water this fall.
WORK! NOTHING BUT WORK! ALL I DO EVERY WEEKEND IS WORK!
Sorry, I got a little upset there I have been really short handed at my store in my busy season.
My wife and I spent the afternoon at the Kennedy Center to see Aladdin, then supper at the Hula Girl in the Shirlington area of Alexandria.
Don Quixote, a gift to the USA from Spain.
Well, apparently I'm NOT flying to Chicago this morning. Nothing like a 5am text to let you know your flight's been canceled. Looks like bad T-storms.
Maybe I'm not starting my new job tomorrow morning haha.
I did my psk overnighter. Full post can be found here:
Here is a photo from the trip:
Homework. College started this week. Even though I’m still in high school, I’m taking dual-credit classes full time. 16 semester hours this fall!

Paddle boarding Friday night. Yard work and grocery shopping Saturday. Went kayaking with two of my daughters this morning - the younger one is in town on vacation and we always try to get her out on the water since that is one of her favorite things. A rare family dinner/birthday party this evening. Sounds like a great weekend know that I am describing it.
I made an oops. Grams turned 85, not 90 .
Gathering was in a town park with a few acres of woods. After and hour of more or less being bored, I excused myself for a smoke break and got a little hike in. Will post pics in the "Mini Trip" thread.
I went to the lake, quickly caught a half dozen small bream that we use for cut bait for cats and bass. Then just hung around for awhile. Drank a couple beers and smoked a cigar.
Late entry. Flea market Saturday, picked up this Columbian vise. Grilled hot dogs outside for dinner with my daughter.
Today we hiked a trail with a lot of natural rock formations, was 93 degrees so we took lots of water and some breaks.
Good luck my friend ! Take a boat load of patience...... it was chaos today !
The line of folks waiting to take an elevator went through the lobby and out the door and nearly to the street..... so my son and I opted to expedite the process by using the stairs..... did I mention he's on the 8th floor ?? WOW what a work out lol !!!!
Mine was spent pulling down water damaged walls on Saturday and putting up new sheetrock today.
I live in south central Fl. in Highlands County. We've been pounded daily also but I'm not in a flood zone. Are you personally dealing with flood damage or just doing work for someone?
I've been flooded out once in my life in a Chicago suburb when the Des Plaines river went nuts. I would never want to have to deal with that again!!
Good luck neighbor,
I'm lucky enough to not be in a flood zone. And the water damage I'm dealing with is in my Florida room. The roof started leaking where it meets the house and a pipe that feeds the sink in there started leaking inside the wall.
Last year I had to deal with flood damage though after a pipe burst in my kitchen. Ruined the walls, cabinets and got under the tile floor.
Glad that you got all moved in. Definitely expecting chaos. Luckily she is on the first floor so maybe that will help the process to go quicker? Maybe see you and some Hawk games this year? I usually go to 3 or 4 of them.
Makes me think of dropping my son off for his freshman year. We waited in line forever to get a parking pass. The pass was good for 1 hour and it took 55 minutes to find an open spot. I mentioned that to the campus police as we started to unload. He grinned and said "you look like a couple men that can handle it" I guess the one hour limit wasn't strictly enforced.
We have decided that it must be unexpected and on the spot visit to any place.
Heading back to this lake (Notch Lake in the Uinta Mountains) tomorrow for the weekend. Can't wait to get away form the city for a while!!
Anime/comic con with my son here in town
This weekend the first annual meet of our regional outdoor/bushcraft-group!
Which I can not attend fully, since I also have a training/social meet with the local calamity resource group, part of the civic defense movement.
We moved son #1 from Nashville to Birmingham yesterday. Son #2 is settled back in at Auburn university. Went to watch son #3 play guitar at church this morning. It’s been a good long weekend. Next weekend the wife and I are heading to Fort Mountain State park for a 2 day camp. Can’t wait
Having recently moved house I'm still at the unpacking stage, mostly books and books and yet more books . I'm just beginning to think it would be so much easier if I owned a television.........
A little cold front rolled in breaking a hot streak so headed out to for an overnighter this weekend to a secluded lake camping spot . Dead end of 4wd trail at head of a big bay. No other folks around for miles and the bay is too shallow for the big boats to get this far back. Very relaxing around the fire with some ice cold Peronis and Crown. The dog kicked back and chilled out pretty good too.
We look forward to Labor Day weekend every year. Not only is it a long weekend it's the biggest flea market we get to attend. Over the years we've refined our schedule to the point we can cover everything we want in 2 days. Over those days we'll walk several miles. There's a little bit of everything and I've never been disappointed with the amount of outdoor related items. The biggest problem is setting a budget and sticking to it.
Going to Moab, Utah this Thursday until Sunday to take photos and make some money.
This weekend will be the company picnic at Beech Bend Amusement and water park with races at the drag strip that night. Last weekend was baby girls first overnighter camping. She did really well.
This was on the wall in my BIL camper.
Baby girl still racked out.
And you can never go wrong with bacon....until it splatters and melts part of baby girls blanket.......awwww $#!T
overland trip in kentucky with my youngest son and a small caravan of other kin and compatriots ...
That looks like a terrific weekend! and as a hammock hanger, that spot looks like a great hang location too!
Heading for the Black Hills this week-end,,, never been, and I’d like to see that country before I go under...
Probably working around the yard, doing some repairs to the driveway, so I can seal it before winter.
Elder daughter is coming home rom her first week at college, so I hope to spend some time with her.
Also, my new second job is weekend night shift on call for towing and recovery. With the area being a tourist destination AND a high travel, holiday weekend, I imagine that I'll be busy. May even get called in early. I actually don't have a problem working the weekend. After 25 years at my regular job, I'm finding the newness of the second job refreshing. I also haven't worked night shift in a looong time. I always kind of enjoyed it. Not many people around. Quiet. What's not to like?
Same as every other summer weekend without west winds! BEACH! Sand and surf and hopefully a few fluke!
Looks like I'll be getting together with my sister and BIL!
Hoping to get up in the mountains and work on my very rusty bushcrafting skills. Should be fun, might take my doggo with me.
My upcoming Labor Day weekend is going to be riding out a cat 3+ hurricane. This one is going to be bad!!
