So I'm going to be doing a @Sargent and Rick Marchand primitive inspired handle on this knife. I want yalls input on whether I do a leather base or a wood base for the handle

I hope to do a hemp turks head that flows nicely into the handle wrap and it will have an exposed tang

    so, what say you?

wood, counterbored on the underside for lighter weight.

Wood. If you can get some bone, jigged and dyed, that would be sweet.

Depends on how thick a handle you like. Leather is going to limit the thickness.

Thanks for the input, my wood selection is somewhat limited, I’ve got a couple scales the ever gracious @Sargent gave me that I stabilized with some minwax wood hardener.
It’s light weight stuff so I might use that.

I did make the blade, it’s forged 1075 and probably around 60rc from what I can tell.
Should make a nice lightweight necker or kit knife.

It’ll get a hemp wrap and a leather sheath with neck and belt carry options.

And if my testing goes well I’ll be getting a vendor membership and putting this one out there.

Some testing before I finished it, batoned, cross batoned, pounded the tip through and split, and then little bitty curlies.
