I have been working on boats to much its time to go paddling and fishing :D
Glen and his son Taylor wanted to get on the Brazos for a short trip. Taylor had never been in a yak.
That was all the excuse I needed broke out three of my wood boats , Hot air perow , T-V and the new Cruiser. We loaded up and headed for the river.
Father and son ready to launch.

We got out of the steel around the bridge and then turned Taylor loose
like most kids he took to it like a duck to water.

We paddled and played and then put in on a sand bar and started fishing , Taylor caught a gasper

He was reeling in so fast he had that fish air borne.
We caught a few more ,nothing special but at least we didnt get skunked.
shot of all three yaks on the bar

We spent a couple hours fishing and then headed back to the ramp ,ran across this little fellow on the way

It was a great easy trip ,intoduced a newby caught some fish and had good company . Taylor has already called me today wanting to set another trip up.

In the first pic the boat on the left is a design by Jemswatercraft, the center one is my design and the right one is a design by Gerald at Brazos Boat Works .
Two were built from plans and with my modifications.

    Have you ever weighed them?

I've never been in a kayak, but the light weight would be a definite advantage over wrestling my 16 footer up and down creek banks and over downed trees at my age.

I've seriously considered ordering an Anirondack style pack boat, but I would hate to experiment by checkbook, just to find out my back and legs can't handle being stretched out flat, after kneeling with a paddle all my life.

I can build a 16 fter under 40 lbs that is still tough.
The T-V ( the one with the cooler mounted in it) is my favorite boat ,weighs about 45 lbs and I sit up nine inches to the front of the seat so it is comfortable.
It all depends on the design of the boat.I would last about 5 minutes kneeling and would need help getting out of the boat

PS If you ever want to build one let me know and I will help anyway I can.
