Hey all. Looking for advice. I'm looking at purchasing a M1101 trailer for general bumming around, camping trips, etc. I'm planning on eventually building an overland type camper out of it. I've got a local deal...asking price is $1750, coming with the hitch, ribs & canvas. Can't see any rust in the pics... I've done some reading, but anything I should be wary of?

They're a decent trailer. They're also aluminum, so rust isn't an issue. Sometimes 1101s have brake problems from dirt in the master cylinder, so check the fluid in the master cylinder on the tongue. Work both parking brake cables and make sure they hold. The ring hitch sits pretty high so make sure whatever your going to tow it with will reach up that far. Good luck.

I'll be pulling it with a Jeep Unlimited...no lifted. From what I've seen it shouldn't be too bad on the height issue. When you say brake cables, do you mean the two emergency brake handles? I"m totally new to these things.

Ben, I know several people that have them for your stated purpose, these are heavy trailers especially when loaded with gear. most have switched axles and hubs to match their jeeps and lighten the hitch and frame. check out expo portal under trailer builds for many examples.

Also check government auctions for these, many have bought these for 900.00 or less, there is a big auction site in ok city.

I have a deuce n a half, but with the flat bed / dump on it.

If I could find a deuce with that radio direction finding cab on the back I would think that would make a pretty amazing out in the middle of no where camper.

Humvee stuff is after my time mostly so other than riding in a few I can't tell ya a ton about them.

Most military stuff is pretty tough and built to be field repairable the trick I have noticed is finding parts. Ya might want to lay in a basic supply or come up with after market sources that will fit and work.

Sorry I can't help more than that, but I do love military trucks and such so just had to throw in my two cents.

I do mean the emergency brake handles. They can be adjusted some by rotating the cap at the top of the lever. Sometimes they get stuck so you might have to fiddle with it some. Lighting may also be an issue, I've installed light bulbs inside the existing taillights without to much trouble using a $10 Harbor freight trailer light set as the donor for the light socket.

Thats a lot of trailer for a jeep. Good trailers. Mostly aluminum frame and chassis. A bit of a challenge to modify as they are basically a huck
Bolted unibody. $1750 seems a bit high from my experience.

check your owner's manual for TOWING CAPACITY

my Wranglers(3x) and both Cherokees have had a 2000# towing cap

the trailer you are looking at will push the limit EMPTY or with a light load

once loaded you will find yourself generating some SPORTY/DANGEROUS situations

    just speaking from experience...

This is my first time buying a trailer...thanks for all the thoughts! I'm sadly going to pass on it this time around. I was sort of excited about getting started on a build. I'm just not set up to modify it so it can run lighter...I heard aluminum and just thought light, totally forgot to check it's overall weight. On to the next idea!

Not muddying things at all, we're floating down the same river lol. I spotted that style just yesterday. If I can find one reasonable priced they look like just the ticket.

    Thanks for all the feedback!
