Etsy at $33 a yard? That's nuts! Buy otter wax and $4 a yard canvas at Walmart. Yes otter wax is $30 a jar but will wax 4-6 yards. You might even find cheaper wax. I was up after I make something then it's easy to recoat when needed.

I've gone the route of buying canvas and treating with wax, but the finished product is not as nice looking and durable as what I now use for making backpacks, haversacks, and other utility items. Plus the stuff I buy does not gum the feed dogs up on your sewing machine. I'm a huge fan and so are the folks who use my creations.

If it's a one time project, you can try making it for a lot less money but I think it takes a while to cure - and of course you need the time and space. Otherwise, just buy it from Big Duck Canvas.

Etsy is really the only place to get Martexin waxed canvas by the yard. Otherwise, you need to buy in bulk from Fairfield Fabrics. They also sell tins of Martexin wax for touch ups, so you could try waxing some regular canvas with that. We've purchased waxed canvas from other places before and nothing has as nice of a finish. We haven't tried the vendor listed above though (Big Duck Canvas) It looks like people are happy with their product and it is a reasonable price!

We've used that Etsy shop in the past for special projects and they ship quickly and the rate is reasonable. If you look at the cost of the canvas, plus a small order processing fee, and then factor in shipping (buying directly from Fairfield) they might be making a couple dollars max selling it by the yard.

Kerri told me about fairfield. I put 3 yards in cart with the cost of the fabric small order fee and shipping it was 187 shipped. I didnt buy but went to bigduck like others have said and bought 10 weight ripstop canvas for 3.00 a yard. 10 yards shipped was around 50

This is the material Hill People Gear uses in their Waxed Canvas Kit Bags and Tarahumaras. I'm not sure where or how to buy it. It's possible that they only sell to commercial sewing operations.
