I was sitting thinking about this the other.

You are lost in the wilderness with temps in the 30°- 35° range with two feet of snow, and you will not be rescued for one week. With you is your kit that you usually carry on a day hike in those conditions.

Now... You have the choice of picking a Survival Expert to be with you for that week, with their kit for a day hike in the same conditions as above. Who would you choose? You can only choose from the three I am naming, no alternates. For the sake of this survey, let's say they are all in their prime.

Ray Mears, Les Stroud or Mors Kochanski.

    Who do you choose?

why do I need a survival expert? It's one week in 30-35 degree weather. Find some shelter, find some wood... toss snow in a cup to melt... yep you'll be hungry but if you stay dry and warm up with a small fire here and there to help dry off when you do get a little damp you'll be fine... a few pounds lighter but fine.

Mors I think :) I don't know much about the others, but Mors seems like he'd be a calm sort of fellow who wouldn't get too bothered if I made a kajillion mistakes :)

    Mors.

I love Les, but he always starves.

Mears is good, too...but Mors is King in the North. I'll take Mors' boreal forest experience all day, every day.

I think I’d like to hang out with Paul Kirtley, in what sounds like a fun week.

But for the sake of the question above, Les.

Depends on the environment. Boreal forest, I'd take Mors. Eastern deciduous forest I'd take Dan Wowack of Coalcracker Bushcraft...I've hung out with him before and this is going to be an awesome week!

Since I can read, I’ll say Mors.

On a more serious note, he’s a master of colder temps and I’ve met him and conversed in person. Not only is he a wealth of knowledge but he’s enjoyable to talk to.

I like Dan as well. I think the areas are similar enough that it would not matter all that much. I suppose Mors would have the most cold weather experience but the others would be familiar with it as well.

Ray Mears! In fact, someone asked a similar question to John ‘Lofty’ Wiseman a while back. It’s on YouTube. But out of everyone I would choose Les Hiddins!

Tip for ya, seeing as how you are new: If you ask redundant or theoretical questions here on BCUSA, don't expect serious replies/conversation. Ask away, just expect foolishness in return.

This very apparent. I searched, and found no threads on this.

Are these adults, or children. I asked a question that I thought would be fun, but I guess not. There's always someone who starts, and the rest follow. Pretty sad.

Mors is still alive so I’ll go with him

I would have picked Ron Hood if I could.

Of course a person of the opposite sex who likes me a lot and has the skill set might trump both.

If you chose Mors K. , have fun doing a majority of the work. He's just so Old now, and doesn't look like he could run if it was necessary. That might actually be a good thing for you if y'all are stuck in bear country.

I guess I'd take a person for their cooking, and conversation skills. Maers from your list, but I'd rather have Cody.
