Yahoo!!! It's that time of year again. Time for my spring Wilderness and Remote First Aid class. I just love teaching this class because each group of students has its own dynamic, which allows for a lot of variability when it comes to running skills sessions. This really allows me to have a lot of fun devising scenarios to fit each group to fully test what they are (or aren't) learning. Here's the info: Sandcut Outdoors is offering another Wilderness and Remote First Aid class for American Red Cross certification. The WRFA class will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 24th and 25th, 2018 from 9 am to 6 pm each day. An Adult CPR/AED class will be offered on Friday March 23rd, 2018 from 5 pm to 8:30 pm for those requiring the certification as a prerequisite for the WRFA class or for anyone requiring Adult CPR/AED certification. The cost for the course is as follows: Wilderness and Remote First Aid only - $180 (for those already holding an Adult CPR/AED certification WRFA + Adult CPR/AED* - $225 (both courses bundled for a substantial cost savings) Adult CPR/AED only - $90 (for those needing only CPR training) Class prerequisites: Must be at least 14 years old Must show proof of a current Adult CPR/AED certification *... This class will be held at The Nature Conservancy’s Hauser Nature Center, located on Long Pond Road, Long Pond, PA. Continuing education credits are available for this class from the American Red Cross for an additional fee for those who require the credits to maintain work or industry certifications. WRFA – 1.6 credits (16 hours), Adult CPR/AED – 0.3 credits (2.5 hours) To register for the course send an email to SandcutOutdoorsLLC@gmail.com For questions email or call Mike at 570)955-8391
For folks who are planning to come in from out of town and need a place to stay, I'm directing my students to the Comfort Inn, 3189 Rt. 940, Mt Pocono. 570)839-9282. The manager has again agreed to lower the price of a room from $140 to $110 if you mention that you are taking the Wilderness and Remote First Aid class with Sandcut Outdoors. Because of all of the ski resorts, etc., none of the other hotels would do this. Students from November's class said that it was comfortable and clean.
For anyone who is thinking of taking this class, registration will be closing Sunday, March 4th unless the class fills up sooner. Don't miss out on a grest class!
I didnt take this course But regardless i highly recommend taking a wfa First aid in name is kinda misleading Way beyond typical first aid course
Definitely! One of the students in my November class phrased it thusly: "I just finished an exceptional WRFA class with Sandcut. This was a fire hose of information, but Mike presented in a way that made it digestible. The scenarios were really well staged and a great learning aid. Well done Mike!" - Robert
Awesome Mike! Gotta check with the wife. She was interested in WFA too, but I'm not sure about her work schedule that weekend.
It would be great to see you again. You would be the first student in my class to have his photo as one of the presentations. I use photos from Flintstones camp as a "lessons learned" session. I'd love to have you give your perspective on it if you were willing. Let me know if you can fit it in your schedules.
Now's the time to jump in at the last minute. I had two seats in a full class open back up. CPR is this Friday and WRFA starts Saturday at 0900.
Had a really great group turn out for this spring's class. We had four students that were 14 and 15 years old. You can say a lot about kids these days not being engaged, but these kids really held there own in this class. Here's some photos from our comprehensive skills scenario. Our victim was suffering from injuries sustained in an "avalanche". Really it was just the berm of snow left over from plowing, but it served us well.
