I really want to go to this. I'll see what I can do as it looks like a lot of fun.

Will you be attending this year?

How was your weekend at the event you went to? Any pictures or trip report?

    Hey! @EternalLove ,

It is a great event! For $ 175.00 you get your registration, 5 meals and bed for 3 nights. There is co much going on with guest speakers Friday and Saturday night. With wilderness movies after. All the classes happening every hour it is a full weekend.

Yes! I'm going again this year. I'm also bringing my son.

Rat Root was a lot of fun! I'm planning on posting about the event with pictures. Just haven't had a chance since I got back Monday.

You should come! It would be great to see you again. You can fly into Minneapolis rent a car it's a 1 hour and 40-minute drive from the airport. The workshops start on Friday and Finishes on Saturday night. Sometimes there is a workshop or two Sunday morning. Though most people packup and head out just after breakfast.

Last year was highlighted by our @IA Woodsman and some of the Alone contestants. It will be tough to top that.

    Morning! @XMP

Last year was good. But, then every year's been good since I started going. There is so much to take in and learn you have to pick and choose what you want to learn more. The people putting it on and the attendees are wonderful! And the price, if you bring your own food and campout the cost is $ 60.00? It's not just about winter camping. It's about getting out and enjoying the outdoors.

@icemanx722 I'll get up there for at least Saturday. I don't think I can cancel classes on Friday and still be able to go to 88T in November.

    Hey! @Big ian

Kelly Harlton is a great speaker with a wealth of knowledge. I don't think I've ever heard Glen Hooper speak. The keynote speaker for Saturday night is Kevin Callen (KCHappyCamper on YouTube). Wikipedia describes "Kevin Callan is a Canadian canoe enthusiast, media personality, and author of thirteen books, including the bestselling [1][2] The Happy Camper and "A Paddler's Guide To" series. For more than 25 years, Kevin has spoken and given keynote presentations at major canoe and wilderness events across North America. Since 1995 Callan has lived in Peterborough, ON, where he teaches Environmental Issues and Sciences at Sir Sandford Fleming College "

I've only watched his YouTube video's and he sounds like a fun person to hear speak.
    Here's his YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/KCHappyCamper

Bushcraft related training day on Thursday, October 24th from 9 Am to 5 Pm. I stumbled across this on the WCS Schedule page.
    https://wcs.eventnut.com/schedule

    9:00 AM

    5:00 PM

    Essential Bush Skills
Ben and Jason will be teaching Fire Making techniques such as bow drill, flint and steel, ferro rods, feather sticks and any other methods they can come up with. They will also give instruction on fire tools, knives, saw and axe use.
    • Jason Gustafson, Owner, Lester River Bushcraft
    • Ben Piersma, Owner, Ben's Backwoods
I talked to Jason Gustafson today. This looks like a fun event to hone your Fire Making skills. Jason & Ben are both very knowledgeable and skilled instructors.

I'm planning on being there! :dblthumb:

I'm going. Just have to figure out how to register and get a bunk in the cabin, so I sent an email to Sara.

Most of the more expensive workshops I'll skip, but will attend any outdoor skills events and workshops - never been to something like this so will no doubt learn quite a bit and expect to have fun.

When registering for the bed in a cabin I didn't know the location field to choose: : camping services? Duluth area YMCA?

I sent an email just now to the info@ contact to make sure I get it right.

Do I register for the symposium separately?

Registered. Probably have to be corrected but at least I've held a spot for the duration. Should be a blast. I chose a cabin just in case we end up with cold blowing rainy sleeting freezing ices storms. heh. Awesome for the outdoor skills though.
