A088A5BB-2780-433B-9DFE-D043B3227A6D.jpeg In the Wisconsin sub forum, I had posted a poll for a GTG date. There is some interest but I think it has the potential to be a multistate outing.

Its 4 hours from Milwaukee, 4 hours from Madison, 4 hours for Minneapolis and 4 from the UP
The site is a beautiful flowage created by the Willow and Tomahawk rivers. There are 30 primitive sites on the property. I tried to access three. The one I did not include was about a mile walk in and in the winter it may be prohibitive for some as it is not packed down

I have video of the two I believe has the most potential for a campout/skills challenge. Site 28 is remote but lacks a lot of parking. Site 1 has a large parking lot, easy to access for all points and the easiest route to bring in gear. It does lack for downed wood where 28 has no issue for fire.

What is different about this gtg is the ability for us to bring snowmobiles or ATV's, ice fishing and hunting/trapping opportunities.

I am not good at videos so keep that in mind. I do believe this has the best possibilities for activity

I would invite anyone from any state to attend and gtg. I will add a poll for those not in WI who may have interest to vote.

I didn't know about this place. It looks great, and is only about 4.5hrs from where I live. I need to check it out. Not sure I could make the gtg, but thanks for posting!

It's about a 40 minute drive from where I live. I'm set up to hot tent, but have also been down below zero before in a hammock. Depending on when it happens and my work schedule, I'm interested.

Come on guys and gals! This always reinforces my theory that Bushcrafters in WI are different than anywhere else. They can not make a decision or care to offer up their own suggestions.

I am happy that there is some interest. It looks like some knowledgable folks are considering coming out but the same comments are the norm....I hope it works for me due to...

Please offer up what dates work for you if you are interested. That is the only way to get a date that everyone can plan for. If you need more than a month to plan, I suggest you uncomplicate your life.

So, I am throwing out the weekend of Feb 9th-12th or 16-19 @WisconsinEric @GreenWoodSpoons @wiwoodsman

I can do any weekend so for me the date doesn't matter. But lets start there.

Please offer up your dates if you are thinking of coming and we will repoll the dates.

That's the big Snowtrekker tent set up for my deer camp. Not exactly sized for hauling on a pulk. Plus, it takes a bigger stove to heat it, which means more weight. I have a smaller Snowtrekker to haul on the pulk, or a large nylon tipi that has a stove jack. I have a 4 Dog Ti stove that will burn you right out of the tipi or smaller Snowtrekker. Think sauna in the bush and you have some idea of how hot it can get.

Right now, February is not shaping up real good for me because of work obligations, but it is possible that could change. I am gone south through the first half of March and may be headed to S. Dakota ice fishing the third week. I'll just have to see how things go.

February 9-12 (or at least a part of that) would probably work best for me. I'll check with my wife (we have a vacation planned for somewhere in there) and give you guys a firm answer.

I wouldn't be able to commit until right before. I've got my dad I take care of so I need to see how he's doing and feeling and make arrangements then. Should hopefully work out tho!

It’s about 3 hours from Madison. Minocqua would be a good google point for you

After all that, my wife booked the vacation over the 9-12 weekend, so I am a firm no for that weekend. Sorry, guys. The following weekend, 16-19 would work for me, however.

I just joined this forum and would definitely be interested in the future events like this. I would commit to this but I’m facing surgery soon and will lay me up for a bit. I’m also no stranger to the Willow Flowage as the tomahawk river is in my picture.

Final plan update. I am bringing my 4 wheeler and and attaching my trailer to bring out gear. I have also decided since we will have 4 wheeler access that we will meet at the McCord road landing.

The campsite is a 514 yards yards from the landing. I have included a Google earth view of the area.

    willow map.jpg

    IMG_3E8F49127375-1.jpeg
you can google the McCord rd landing. I find that taking Willow Rd to Muskellunge Rd to McCord Rd and turn right. Musky Rd and McCord are forest roads but are plowed to the landing You can also take McCord for 8 but it is all dirt rd and is mildly rough.

coming from Minocqua Area is County Rd Y off of 51 to Iron Gate Rd another fire/forest rd. I will know if it is plowed this weekend and I am riding out to the campsite to be sure about wood.

Only possible change would be if 2-3 more say they are coming that didn't previously then we would have to find another spot with more parking near the original plan

After checking recent conditions at the Flowage, the confirmed schafter’s and I decided the near 24” of snow in the last two weeks proved a bit much due to the remoteness of the chosen site.

I will start a new thread and poll for us.

When I get home, I am up there, I will repoll. It has to be before ticks come out so no later than mid April depending on temperatures.
