Most recent and already sold Backpacker
Dude I just scrolled through this thread. Awesome work you’ve got some great looking knives.
Thanks, I just ordered another 180" of O1 and have a little bit more 3V incoming too
That 2.5" wide piece will get halved as I go to make 72" vs 36". That way material cost me less and I can pass the savings on to you guys!
You are making some seriously impressive stuff!!
Thanks, I've been learning a lot as I go and every knife is an improvement over the last.
I have to admit there are tedious parts I despise doing but when the knifes done and ready to ship out theres nothing I enjoy more that putting the final piece of tape on the box.
First piece of 3V laid out, ready to cut out. Need to order another thick piece for sure!
Couple new patterns that going to happen in this batch too.
Loving the look of that 3V and those new patterns. Definitely gets me thinking.....
I'm just now leaving work and the 3v for your knife is waiting on me too!
Knocked out sheaths tonight, but that's the boring stuff!
Boom! 3V baby!
Want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans. Between working way to much and my wife not mailing out stuff like I asked I feel like I am 2 weeks behind.
Things are starting to happen....
Today was full of cut grind shape drill and heat treat. And in the midst of all that I managed to still go to my store for a hour and a half to interview someone....
Thin blue line knife. It's got a single glow liner that glows blue between the scales.
This was supposed to be a kephart... maybe the Plainsmen bolo light? Since its 1/8" O1...
Most importantly @M.Hatfield 's Custom 3V Bushcrafter, longer handle and slightly longer blade in a thin yet strong 3V with lightened tang, it will be a scandi when I'm done.
Looking awesome! That little Bolo seems ready for work!
SSsoooooooo....that mini-parang.......whats the dealie-o with it??? Asking for a friend of course....
The thin mini pararang was a custom order from a member here who loves his btw. But I happen to have another blank ready for bevels and heat treat if your friend is interested.... wink wink
Great looking knives, you sure are talented.
Well since I am buying your other knife..... lets talk trades or discounts!! ;-)
Tell me about the thin blue line knife; beings how I'm a LEO and all. Thanks buddy!
All I know is that it glows!
It's a hidden tang, kephart styled blade with black canvas micarta that will be hand polished with a blue glow liner between the canvas. With two stainless pins and two stainless loveless bolts.
BUT I am thinking the next one will be black canvas/ glow blue liner/ blue G10/ glow blue liner/ black canvas just for effect.
Hard to catch the glow on a cell phone.
Thin blue line knife. Is it pre sold? Steel? Finished handle contours? Blade length? Handle length? I am very interested. Thanks Chris!
ETA: looks like our posts crossed paths. Think I should hold out for the next one? I want a thin blue line, but I want it special!!!
I want to say blade is about 4.5" handle 4 to 4.25" handle contour will be similar to a basic kephart without the little nub behind the edge grind.
Also see above pic added after I posted. I'll get firm measurements in a few hours when I get home. No it's not pre sold but if need be brother, I'll make you a special one to your specs, just know that glow liners are not cheap lol but ya get special pricing as LEO too sooo.....
Let your imagination run wild bro. You make it, I'll buy it. Your last suggestion sounds good. I NEED i sabre grind. Black and blue on blue sounds fantastic. Oh, and you know I love Kephart style knives.
How thick do you want the stock? I have 1/8 and 5/32 incoming sometime early next week
Ok this glowing stuff is cool as f and looks way more awesome in person than I can show in pics!
Little progress on the bevels on the TBL knife. Really liking this combo!
Couple other irons came out of the fire the other night too.
Spoken for kephart
And a available Survival Kurz
I'd love to had done some awesome stuff in the shop but I had a bad day at work so here is what the night entails.
Seems like a well deserved Saturday night to me! Cheers!
Back at it tomorrow after work tho! I'll be finishing the TBL knife and the Kephart blank at the least.
Totally lied lol! I ended up prepping these two last night, by cleaning up the bevels and putting an edge on them.
This process is such a pain in the ass! the marriage lines didn't come out as nice as I'd have liked but its just me nit picking the details......
Low light pics always suck.....but the blue is AWESOME!
Sweet looking knifes. Prov 27:17
Thanks, I can't wait to get all the 3V blades done up and back from HT!
3V steel and glowing blue stuff are easily among my favorite things.
Let me guess with a 8-10" blade.....
I mean, something lightweight and orange seems more likely in my future. Bet lots of folks would love a big blade and a handle that glows!
I'd need to set up a new jig first, then I could run 6 to 10 inch blades easier. I haven't mastered free hand grinds just yet.
When you master the free hand grind can we expect to see varied convex grinds on ONE side of the blade and then compound hybrid grind on the other side of the blade?
Uhhh never mind, that would be an abomination.
I am sure whatever continues to come out of your shop will be an impressive performer.
Horrible lighting today, but a little progress on the TBL knife today. This one has a slight learning curve for sure.
Love the shape of that handle. Just curious; what's different about working with these materials? I'm not a knife maker, so......
The micarta is hard, obviously lol and the glow material is softer like plastic. So if you catch a belt wrong it will gouge or if you put to much pressure on the liner material it will snap.
Side note this ones done.... I guess. It was the first and definitely let me see how to go about it without fing the whole process lol.
Theres a little epoxy gap showing but other than that its really not bad in hand. @Longhunter1761 your knife will have 3/8 micarta on top of blue G10 and the center glow liner, or we can go full tang then use a full glow liner and blue liner and 1/4" micarta, your call.
The epoxy filled gap
There ain't no flies on that knife! Looks pretty good from here. PM sent btw.
Area51 type stuff going on here!
And a custom Kephart that started as just a blank for a trade....
The only tanto I've done so far, my BIL has been carrying and using it for a month or so, just had me add the ulticlip to the sheath.
Man what a day for mail calls!
These pieces of walnut are going to make some awesome knives!
This was ordered in for a custom for @Longhunter1761 for a really sweet thin blue line knife. It'll be black- blue g10- glow blue- steel- glow blue- blue g10- black with a nice traditional kephart style handle! Mmmm cant wait, now to get the steel in!
Gonna be a nice one. I can smell it!
